June Monthly Focus: Satya
What does Satya (truthfulness) actually look like when you step onto the mat?
As Ashtangis, it’s easy to get caught up in the desire for the next posture, the perfect bind, or a seamless transition. But the second limb of the Yoga Sutras asks us to practice radical honesty with ourselves first.
Satya on the mat means:
Honoring your energy: Admitting when today is a day for a soft practice, rather than forcing a posture just because it’s next in the sequence.
Ditching the ego: Acknowledging where your breath actually shortens, rather than pretending a bind is comfortable when it’s compromising your alignment.
Accepting the daily shift:
Recognizing that today’s Primary or Intermediate Series might look entirely different from yesterday’s—and being okay with that truth.
Remember, Satya never works in isolation. It is always guided by Ahimsa (non-harming). Truth without compassion isn’t yoga; it’s just judgment.
How are you practicing Satya in your Mysore room or home practice this week? Let’s chat in the comments.

The Importance of Prana: Nourishing Your Vital Life Force
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt a shift in energy, or taken a deep breath and felt a sudden wave of calm? That is the power of Prana.
In yoga philosophy, Prana is the cosmic vital life force—the invisible energy that flows through all living things and keeps us alive, vibrant, and connected.
Why Prana Matters:
• The Bridge of Breath: Prana is directly linked to the breath. When we practice breath control (Pranayama), we aren’t just taking in oxygen; we are directing this vital energy to clear mental fog and reduce stress.
• Fuel for Mind and Body: Just as a car needs fuel, our bodies and minds rely on Prana to function optimally. High Prana leaves us feeling inspired, focused, and physically energized. Low Prana can manifest as sluggishness, anxiety, or burnout.
• Emotional Balance: When Prana flows freely through our energy channels, our emotions stabilize. We become less reactive to life’s daily stressors and more grounded in the present moment.
You can absorb Prana through fresh food, time spent in nature, deep breathing, and mindful movement. When you consciously nurture your Prana, you aren’t just surviving—you are truly thriving.

The Bhagavad Gītā – Practice, Psychology, and Integration
Beyond the physical practice of āsana lies a roadmap for the soul. Many of us know the Bhagavad Gītā as a sacred text, but it was originally intended as a practical guide for navigating life’s most difficult moments. Join us for a specialized two-weekend intensive where we bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern life. This workshop moves beyond theory, presenting the Gītā as a “yoga manual” for inner conflict, ethical action, and psychological clarity.

Pratyahara is derived from two words:
• Prati: “Away” or “against.”
• Ahara: “Food” or “anything we take into ourselves from the outside.”
It is often described as “Sensory Withdrawal.” Just as a tortoise draws its limbs into its shell, the practitioner draws their senses away from external stimuli.
Pratyahara Workshop | Finding stillness in a noisy world
This Saturday 28th 2.00pm - 4.00pm we will learn the importance of Patanjali’s road map of the eight limbs Yoga, conserving energy in preparation for the subtle practices of Ashtanga Yoga. There will be minimal theory and mostly practice. Plenty of resting periods and a short break.
