πŸ˜‚πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈβ˜• BNECC’s Largest Coffee Run (With Some Cycling in Between) β˜•πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

For one glorious Brisbane morning, the rain actually read the ride calendar and decided to stay home. More than 80 riders somehow navigated every back street, roundabout and questionable Garmin route to converge on The Avenue, Sunnybank Hills at exactly 6:45am. A logistical masterpiece masterminded by our caffeine-powered architect, Jon Mulaly, with G2, G3 and G4 route gurus carefully plotting paths so everyone arrived at roughly the same time... and only slightly blocked local traffic.

A huge shoutout to Dave S and the club mascot, who bravely accepted the most important role of the day: transporting the photography gear. Some call them support crew, others call them "the real athletes".
The group photo somehow worked perfectly. No missing riders, no mechanicals, no one accidentally ending up in Ipswich. Miracles do happen.
Then came the second half of the ride... absolute carnage. Segments were attacked like they owed people money. KOMs, QOMs, Gold Cups and PRs were flying around Strava so fast you'd think everyone had been locked indoors for a month and just escaped. Smiles everywhere. Suffering everywhere. Mostly the same people.

And then there was G1...Their group photo told the whole story: "Bring your legs and say goodbye to your friends." Led by James aboard his trusty crew, they disappeared westward on a Kholo-Westlake adventure that was equal parts cycling and character-building exercise.

All up, a spectacular weekend:
βœ… 90+ riders
βœ… Coffee achieved
βœ… Segments destroyed
βœ… Friendships tested on climbs and hitouts
βœ… No rain
βœ… Plenty of reasons to explain to your family why you needed a nap by 2pm

Until next weekend, stay safe and hopefully we get to do some more riding next week 😊

Sunday Ridesβ€¦πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ BNECC 2026: What have we been doing πŸ€”πŸ€£πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

We rode a few bikes. We drank a few coffees. We climbed a few hills. Unfortunately, BNECC's definition of "a few" remains under investigation.

Highlights included:
πŸ† The Magnificent Five knocking over 118km and 1,800m of climbing after being told there were "no climbs of note."
πŸ› οΈ Zach fixing FOUR punctures in a single ride, donating his own tube and Dynaplug, and becoming BNECC's first officially recognised roadside assistance service.
πŸ•οΈ The Challenge Ride - weekend away, where members willingly handed over money to suffer for multiple days in a row and somehow called it a holiday
🏝️ The annual Straddie expedition, where riders boarded a ferry, navigated the island, consumed industrial quantities of coffee and pastries, then somehow found the energy to ride home.
🌊 G4 splitting into multiple groups and still arriving with enough riders to qualify as a regional population centre.
⛰️ Countless trips up Coot-tha, Gap Creek, Brookfield and Samford, plus every other climb cleverly disguised as "a lump."
β˜• Thousands of coffees consumed (mostly Jon).
🍰 Millions of calories burned to justify cake.

Huge thanks to our ride leaders for:
βœ… Keeping us safe
βœ… Fixing our bikes
βœ… Finding amazing routes
βœ… Consistently understating elevation gain
βœ… Being the center of attention in club photos (possibly Graham and the G3 leaders today )

Official 2026 Statistics
πŸ“ˆ Climbs of note: None (according to ride leaders)
πŸ“ˆ Punctures: Mostly Zach's problem
πŸ“ˆ Gels consumed: Financially irresponsible
πŸ“ˆ Coffee stops: Essential safety equipment
πŸ“ˆ Questionable decisions: Countless
πŸ“ˆ Good mates and great memories: Priceless

And from this weekend, finally managed photos from all groups, even G1, no Strava stalking required πŸ™πŸ€£.

October has arrived and the weather has been absolutely magical, the tailwinds have been exceptional, and the kilometres have been plentiful. Massive thanks to all our ride leaders this weekend (and every weekend) for getting BNECC members out enjoying the views, the climbs, the coffee and occasional poor life choices.

G1 rolled out with the Magnificent Five led by James on the Brookie-Mogill Ferry loop (118km / 1,800m). The ride brief included the immortal words: β€œa few lumps... no climbs of note.” James, respectfully, we'd love to see what you classify as a climb. While most of us celebrate surviving a ride and retaining ownership of our lungs, G1 were apparently out collecting KOMs, cups and personal bests like they're PokΓ©mon cards. Chapeau, team.

Zach, Liza, Pet, Tony and Hayley shepherded 28 riders around the three points of Wellington, Cleveland and Victoria via Mt Gravatt. The ride featured climbing, hit-outs, strong legs and, unexpectedly, a puncture competition. Ride leader Zach personally dealt with four punctures, smashing Lachlan's previous benchmark and even donating a Dynaplug and tube from his own supplies. Someone get this man a sponsorship deal.

Meanwhile, G2, expertly guided by Jeremy and Andrew, tackled Gap Creek, Samford and Coot-tha with 11 riders. Unlike certain unnamed G1 ride leaders, their ride brief honestly admitted the ride was β€œa bit hillier too, 2,000m.” That's the sort of transparency we value in this club. Plenty of climbing, plenty of hit-outs and nearly 100km of quality suffering. Outstanding effort.

The mighty G4 split into Groups B and C, with Group A returning on 18 October. Even divided, they still had 35 riders and six ride leaders (Genevieve, Gerrit, Daniel, Graham, Jonathan and Szczepan) heading to Redcliffe for spectacular water views and an equally spectacular display of bunch riding.

Another cracking weekend on the bike. Enjoy the long weekend, soak up the sunshine and remember: if your ride leader says β€œa few lumps”, update your will before rolling out. πŸš΄β˜€οΈπŸ˜…

Weekend Recap: The Blank Stare Invitational β˜•πŸš΄
Lachlan's crew rolled out for a "steady" 100km featuring Mt Coot-tha, Gap Creek, Pullenvale and a healthy 1,700m of climbing. Being the considerate ride leader he is, Lachlan even included a ferry crossing so riders could enjoy the river views while quietly reflecting on where exactly all their matches had gone. By coffee, the group had collectively mastered the thousand-yard stare. Legend. πŸ˜‚

Meanwhile, Liza, Dave and Jarrod took 28 enthusiastic riders out through Samford, Redcliffe and Margate. Great pace, great company, great views... and by the end, the same expressionless faces staring into coffees as if waiting for answers from the caffeine gods.

G4 numbers were a little lighter with some riders away and several ride leaders supporting Sisters of the Saddle (SOTS). For those unfamiliar, SOTS is a fantastic community built around women, cycling, connection and giving back. Love that. ❀️
Back on home turf, Gerrit and Szczepan led Group B (aka Solid, which sounds suspiciously like code for suffering), while Graham and Jonathan took the more social crew. Between them, 25 riders ticked off Mt Gravatt, Mt Coot-tha, a Riverloop and enough climbing to ensure conversation at coffee was limited to occasional blinking.

No flats. Just kilometres, climbs, coffee and a club-wide outbreak of Blank Stare Syndromeβ„’.

If you've been thinking about it, waiting for one more ride to decide, or trying to convince yourself that you definitely don't need another jersey... this is your sign. 😏

The new kit from is looking absolutely sensational, and we've already seen plenty of members planning their fresh October and café stop wardrobes. Lachlan and Liza may have set the benchmark, but there's still time for the rest of us to look at least 3 watts faster. ⚑

From the Glass House Mountains to Victoria Point, with pastries, bay views, hills and questionable ride naming decisions in between, BNECC had all bases covered this weekend. πŸš΄β˜•πŸ₯

Our ever-popular G4 crew decided the most important ride detail wasn't the route... it was the pastry and far more focused on baked goods than the fact they rolled through Archerfield, Forest Lake and Wacol, with possible kangaroo sightings along the way. Let's be honest, once "pastry stop" appears in the description, the route becomes secondary πŸ€£πŸ‘Œ Huge thanks to Stefan, Jonathon, Jon and Graham for safely driving the Party Bus. πŸ₯πŸš

Meanwhile, Andrew and Dan's G2 "Beef & Reef" ride had us all asking the same question: where exactly does the lobster come in? The route delivered plenty of hills through Samford, Strathpine and Shorncliffe, but we're still waiting on photographic evidence that Dan and Andrew completed the ride in matching cow and lobster costumes. Until proven otherwise, we'll assume they did. πŸ¦žπŸ„

At the sensible end of the spectrum, Liza, Tony, Pete and Jarrod skipped the marketing department entirely and simply called their ride "Planet-Mt G-Bayview-2Points". No flashy title. No clickbait. No promises of pastries, crustaceans or livestock. Yet somehow they attracted 23 riders, proving cyclists will happily turn up for a good route, great company and outstanding bay views. The only thing flatter than parts of the course was everyone's excuse for skipping a turn on the front. πŸŒŠπŸ˜‚

Then there was Nik's Glass House Mountains gravel adventure, which was basically advertised as: "Come get dirty." Mud, water, chunky gravel, technical sections, loose descents and enough adventure to make your washing machine question its life choices. The drone footage looked spectacular, and judging by the smiles (and amount of dirt), the eight riders absolutely loved every minute of it. πŸš΅β€β™‚οΈπŸ’¨

Whether you came for the pastries, the bay views, the hills, the gravel, the wildlife or simply the post-ride coffee, another cracking BNECC morning was served up.
Only one question remains...How many kilometres are cyclists willing to ride to justify a pastry? Asking for G4. πŸ₯πŸ˜‚

We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Salire and officially launch the latest BNECC club collection.

β˜€οΈ Father's Day + September sunshine + bikes = peak BNECC.

Somehow all groups managed the impossible and rolled into Planet Cycles at the same time. No emails, no committees, no project plan.

G2 headed to Carbrook where it quickly became Team Lachy vs Team Daniel. The 12km hit-out brought plenty of rivalry, with Cooper taking line honours after Jayden sought clarification on where the finish line actually was. Maybe next time attend the ride brief instead of the post-race inquiry, mate. πŸ˜‚ Flats were also on the menu. G2 collected three of them, while Alex was running on approximately four minutes of sleep and enough pickle juice to qualify as a preserved vegetable.

G3 rolled out 27 strong for what Pete described as a "flat ride". A statement that somehow included the Gateway Bridge, Hemmant, Northside Three Fingers, Qantas Drive and Nudgee. No splits, no dramas, no flats - even with Changy around to attract punctures like a magnet. Just a smooth 100km with a great crew.

G4 did what G4 does. Twenty-eight riders, two groups, one social and one effort pace. Social was led by Graham and Jonathan, while Jon and Nik collected the speedster honours. We passed them at Hemmant and despite looking rapid, speedster Jon was sitting at the back. Either recovering from his efforts or conducting very important aerodynamic research.

πŸ”οΈ Special mention to our travelling BNECC members flying the club colours elsewhere while finding hills to climb. Commitment levels remain dangerously high.

Until next Sunday, have a great week!
