Sutherland Sharks FC Building the future of football in the Shire. Developing talent, raising standards, and creating a home our community can be proud of - since 1930 🦈

The Sutherland Shire's premier football team since 1930. History
Sutherland Sharks have a longer and more intriguing history than many might imagine. Despite the adversity of a small population base and relative isolation (no direct road access to Sydney), the seeds of the current football club was sown as far back as 1930 with the formation of Sutherland United SFC. By 1936, the club had grown markedly leading to a split and formation of the club we know today, albeit under a different moniker - Casuals Soccer Football Club. With the return of Servicemen following WWII, the population of the area quickly grew and with it the prowess of the Casuals. Up until this point the club had competed in the St George Association but in 1947 the Casuals stepped up to the Metropolitan Soccer League (effectively the Sydney 2nd Division, second in status behind only the old NSW Soccer Association 1st Division). The club soon earned its stripes in this highly competitive league and to the surprise of many, won the title in just their second year. This success led to promotion to the heady heights of the Association 1st Division but disappointingly, financial constraints forced them to let the opportunity pass. It would be another 24 years before the club would move into the State’s top flight.

Episode 11 of The Rebuild is out now, and it might be the biggest one yet 🔥

It starts with Round 29 against St George City. We’re 2-1 up, the clock’s ticking past 90 and Jordan Perez throws himself in front of a goal-bound shot to clear it off the line. Whistle goes, and we’re in the Australian Championship for the first time in the club’s history.

Then football does what football does. A loss to SD Raiders to close out the season, then a home semi final against Manly United at Seymour Shaw. An 89th minute equaliser that sent the place wild, extra time, and a 5-4 loss on penalties. We also sit down with Perko and the group to talk about the 11 players who left at the end of 2026, what that feels like from the inside, and why the calls were made.

IWe finish by looking ahead to the Australian Championship and meeting a few of the new faces at the club 👀🇦🇺🏆

Putting the final touches on our new 2026 Australian Championship kits 🔥👀

Competing in the Australian Championship is a huge privilege for us, but it takes a lot to get there. Each name on this shirt represents individuals who have personally supported this journey.

That support has made a real difference, and when the boys run out with your names on their shirts, they’ll know exactly who they’re playing for 🤝

It’s an honour to have you on the pitch with us. Thanks for being a part of the greatest community in the game 🦈
