You have to recruit to make money! That is not the case for a LEGITIMATE business." I believe the exact opposite is true--EVERY business must recruit to be successful.

So to start, let me just ask, are there other business models already established where recruiting is the #1 goal? How about franchise sellers, athlete recruiters, head hunters, executive placement companies, Human Resources departments, etc.

These people have a contract with their company to go out and acquire the customer or partner or athlete or employee that the company wants. So their paycheck is 100% based on their ability to recruit.

"OK, but what about a rep recruiting another rep? That must make it a pyramid..."

Who recruits the sales rep does not make a business legitimate or not. It's actually pretty common in business for a salesperson to bring over their friends and colleagues from previous companies into their new company. (How many times have you helped a friend get a job?)

Many times, in a regular sales job, a salesperson will have a sales manager they report to who trains them and establishes their quota. So does the sales manager have to get a customer? No. Usually, the manager's job is manage and train the sales reps.

Think about it -- for ANY business, whether it's network marketing or not -- fair exchange (for a product or service) is the center. Period.

(1) Does the customer want the product?
(2) Is there a fair exchange?

That's business in its most basic form. Simple.

Compensation paid (to employees, sales reps or distributors) is not a business model -- it's a contract.

Is it a requirement that you have to recruit? No.
Is it a requirement that you sell anything? No.
Is it a requirement that you promote at all? No.

Network Marketing is really just a partnership we make with a product company, with a commission only contract.

The company has done a whole lot of things to create a product, and now they need to sell it. They have options... They could put a TV commercial on the Super Bowl, hire a celebrity, build a fancy website, or in our case recruit a sales team to go out and sell the product through whatever channel they want.

No matter what, the business has to recruit. If they don't, it's probably gonna be a very tiny business, and it probably won't last very long. Whether they pay their salespeople a salary or a commission is simply based on the company's preference and their agreement with the rep.

I hope this sheds some light on this common objection. Once you understand, there's really no objection -- just a misunderstanding of business.
