Lea Extreme Race

Lea Extreme Race Australia's premiere extreme whitewater kayaking race. Australia's premiere extreme kayaking race is on again for 2022.

Nestled in the foothills of Cradle Mountain, the Lea River provides natural flows down grade 3/4 rapids leading into Lake Gardiner. This year, the event is being held on Saturday the 17th of September. Presentations, dinner and after party will take place at the Forth Canoe Club again, where there is plenty of room to camp and enjoy the night socialising, listening to live music and eating hot food around the campfires. More information regarding entries will be posted soon, but for now, block out the 17th of September on your calendar. Don't forget to support our 2021 Sponsors (in no particular order):

As expected, this year's low water levels gave an extra advantage to perennial champions Justin Boocock and Dan Hall, with a convincing winning margin and a lightning-fast time, considering the flows.

There was a changing of the guard for the rest of the pointy end of the field, with the young guns charging into 2nd and 3rd place ahead of some well credentialled teams.

It was also very nice to see some competitors return after a hiatus of several years.

Well done to all racers for running a safe race and pushing themselves in challenging conditions.

The organisers of the Lea Extreme Race would like to extend our gratitude to all participants for the respectful, considerate and generous way that you responded to Phil's passing on Saturday.

We will be providing race results and other information in the coming days.

Once again, thank you from everyone at the Tas Canoe Club.

Unfortunately we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Australian Whitewater Film Festival scheduled for Friday night (tomorrow) due to a lack of entries received this year.

We thank the 4 entries that were received.

We will be back in 2027- hopefully bigger and better than ever!

Hanko and the team at Horizon Line Canoes have been long running and generous supporters of the Lea Extreme Race for a long time now.

This year is no exception, with a solid list of prizes awaiting and additional support from Immersion Research.

There's a great prize pool packed with whitewater, rescue and paddling gear:

Palm River Knife
Pin Kit – 2x SMC Pulleys, 2x NRS Carabiners and 1x Prusik Loop
Astral Dyneema Throw Bag
Astral Pusha Shoes
Immersion Research Rival Long Sleeve Semi-Dry Top
Immersion Research Scorcher Hoodie
Immersion Research Lightweight Power Wool Hoodie
Palm Riff Rescue PFD – a brand-new product that Horizon Line doesn’t even have in stock yet!

The Palm Riff Rescue is an especially exciting addition to the prize pool, giving one lucky paddler the chance to get their hands on Palm’s brand-new rescue PFD before it has even landed at Horizon Line.

Whether you’re chasing the podium or just coming along for a great day of racing, there’s plenty up for grabs.

A huge thank you to Horizon Line Canoes for sponsoring the Lea Race and putting together this prize pool, along with Immersion Research for their support of the event.

We’re looking forward to a great day of racing. See you on the Lea!
