After a huge day on Saturday, HMAA would like to welcome a few students to their new ranks.

James Catchpole and Cameron Perry both rolled through 2 gruelling hours of non-stop rounds for their promotion to Purple Belt. They were joined by Michael Gravenall from who completed 1 hour of rounds to be awarded his Blue Belt (the first home grown Blue Belt from the Derwent Valley).

HMAA is so proud of these three.

So thrilled to be able to share in such a special day, the well deserved Black Belt promotions of and .fantastic

All 3 of these men have committed a lot to Tasmanian Jiu Jitsu and Martial Arts and are a wonderful addition to the Tasmanian Black Belt team.

After competing against, judging or refereeing all of them multiple times, I'm so grateful to be here.

It is pretty hard to put into words what this man means to me personally and to Hobart Martial Arts Academy.

Without , there probably wouldn't be Muay Thai at HMAA or at least it would have been much harder to develop.

Dave has influenced the game and teaching style of in a lot of ways, and if Gerry has ever said "make your jab longer" it is really Dave saying it.

Dave has helped shape the teaching, training and fighting culture of HMAA and is in large part responsible for the excellent fight record we have as well as the way we conduct ourselves as a team.

Dave's influence goes beyond HMAA, though. If we are honest, I doubt there are many Muay Thai practitioners in Hobart who weren't trained by Dave, trained by someone who was trained by Dave or trained with someone who was. His influence spreads far and wide.

Dave will be missed by everyone at HMAA and by Gerry most of all.

Remember Dave, the mat will always be here for you.

Oscar and Joe have been with HMAA for nearly 10 years.

Coming through kids classes and growing into the adult belt ranks. They really show that the future of Jiu Jitsu us great.

Check out their amazing belt displays of all the belts they have worn and earned in their journey.

Martial Arts belts mean a lot to practitioners, it is fun to see how people commemorate them.
