Some encounters make you stop and appreciate the little details.

Perched on the deck of the ex-HMAS Brisbane, this lionfish certainly knew how to put on a show. Fins fully extended, barely moving, and completely unbothered as Mike captured this beautiful close-up.

One of the things we love about diving the ex-HMAS Brisbane is that no two dives are ever quite the same. Even after countless visits, there’s always something worth slowing down for.

Have you ever noticed who’s swimming behind a sea turtle?

Next time you spot a turtle cruising along the reef or deck, take a closer look. It might have a few little followers!

But why?

Some fish take advantage of the turtle’s movement and feeding activity. As turtles graze on seagrass, corals or disturb the seabed, they can uncover tiny organisms and food particles that nearby fish are quick to investigate.

And sometimes, fish are simply swimming in the same area, without any particular relationship to the turtle.

It’s one of those little underwater interactions that can be easy to miss when we’re focused on the bigger picture.

The more time we spend observing marine life, the more we realise there’s always something else happening beneath the surface.

Sometimes it’s not even about what we find underwater, but simply being out there, sharing the ocean with people who enjoy it just as much as we do.

Just a little heads-up from us before summer sneaks up on everyone…

Our next available Open Water Course starts on 10 November, and from spring onwards, our courses normally start filling up pretty quickly.

We’re already seeing some of our December dates getting down to only 4-2 spots available, so if learning to dive is still on your “before the end of the year” list, now is probably a good time to start thinking about locking in your dates.

And if you’ve been thinking about an Open Water Course as a Christmas present or an upcoming birthday gift, same little reminder summer dates tend to disappear before we realise it!

Plans can change too. If you book your course and later realise the dates no longer work, you’re always welcome to reschedule as long as you give our team the required notice.

No pressure. Just your friendly reminder that summer is coming, holidays are coming… and so is our busiest time of the year underwater.

Would you know how to find your way back?

It’s easy to follow your guide underwater… but there’s a whole different level of confidence that comes from actually knowing where you are and where you’re going.

Navigation is one of those skills that really changes the way you dive.

Learning how to use your compass properly, read the reef and natural references around you, estimate distance, and find your way back even when visibility isn’t perfect.

Because you don’t need perfect visibility to have a MAGIC dive. You need the skills and confidence to enjoy whatever the ocean gives you.
