What a fantastic day for the opening of our greens!

Last year’s singles winners, Yvonne Arnold and Terry Callaghan, officially got things underway by bowling the old wood.

We then rolled into a friendly game that—in true club spirit—ended up being very competitive!

A big, warm welcome to our new members who joined the action and looked absolutely fantastic in the club blue: Lindy Syrett, Cris Ellis, Marika Osmotherly, John Hennessy, Greg Kelly, Tracey Fletcher, and Hayden Watkins! Welcome to the Moorabbin Bowls Club family!

The weather gods looked after us perfectly once again. As Norm Foenander used to say, "Welcome to Sunny Moorabbin!" The sun burst through right on cue for our match. We managed to dodge the elements completely, with plenty of rain falling overnight and the downpour holding off until just after the games finished.

A huge thank you to Anita Sleight and Lindy Syrett for putting together a lovely lunch for everyone.

Happy Birthday for yesterday Coach

Happy 70th birthday Marty Lyons.
Born 4th of September 1956.
After transferring to senior football from the Beaumaris Under 17s, Lyons was hailed as the VFArecruit of the year after his first season at Sandringham, but they were unable to hold him after impressive performances attracted the interest of VFL clubs. He had interest from St Kilda, but signed with Melbourne.
Lyons debuted in Round 1, 1975 and kicked four goals on debut. He played 19 games and was voted Best First Year Player, but despite playing the first two games of the next year Lyons struggled to hold his spot over the next two years and was cleared back to Sandringham midway through 1977. He returned in time to play in their VFA Grand Final side, appearing in 141 games for the Zebras until 1986. He played in a Reserves premiership in 1982, and a senior flag in 1985.
In 1986 Lyons was appointed captain of the senior side and coached the reserves in the same year before retiring midway through the season after his mother and brother passed away in quick succession. He return to Sandringham as Reserves coach in 1988.
Son Jarryd played 194 AFL games and won the 2023 JJ Liston trophy.

WHAT A WAY TO FINISH!
Yesterday wrapped up our very last day of Winter Social Bowls for the season, and the weather gods certainly smiled on us with the sun shining bright!

We had an incredible turnout of 51 players forming 18 teams, which meant we got to stretch out across both greens to fit everyone in.

A massive thank you goes out to our incredible, consistent crew of regular helpers—Melissa, Robyn, Anita, Lois, Sheenah, and Tony. Your ongoing support has been invaluable.
We also want to give a huge shoutout to everyone who jumped behind the bar, helped set up, and packed up the rinks at the end of the day. Every bit of help is greatly appreciated!

We love organising these days and we are proud to provide such a great day for our the club and community.

Winter in Melbourne has been absolutely fantastic and today was no exception. We were spoiled with plenty of sunshine, beautiful blue skies, and hardly a breath of wind—perfect conditions for our latest social bowls day! We had a fantastic turnout with 44 players taking to the greens, including a couple of new faces who joined in on the fun. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the day such a success.

Time is flying, and there are now only 2 weeks left of social bowls for the season!

Winter Bowls turned on another lovely day for us yesterday - the weather was kind and the turnout was fantastic, with enough numbers to use two greens.

A huge thank you to Lindy and Therese for stepping in to make our delicious soup, and to all our wonderful helpers who keep things running smoothly.

Great to see some new faces in the winners’ group too.

We had a terrific turnout today with 55 bowlers hitting the greens.

The weather was absolutely perfect, allowing us to roll out across both of our fantastic surfaces.

Action was happening all day on the Norm Foenander synthetic and the Jan Shaw grass greens.

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported the club, and made it such a brilliant day of bowls.
