🗓 JUNIOR SEASON DATES CONFIRMED 🗓

The dates for the junior season have been locked in, and there's just over 4 weeks until it all starts for 2026/27!

💪 Our JUNIOR PROGRAM builds on these foundations, with under 12s stepping up to play on a cricket pitch for the first time. All kids get a go, with the rules tailored to inclusion and engagement for all team members.

🏏 Moving through to under 16s, kids are well on the PATHWAY TO SENIOR CRICKET, with the boundaries bigger and stakes higher. At this age, juniors are able to give senior cricket a go, and are nurtured by our senior club members to help them develop their skills!

On Sunday 30 August, we held our annual Life Members get-together - this year was the first where we gathered for lunch!

The year we had two special announcements:
- The official renaming of our Women's award to the Therese Smith Omega Medal, recognising the greatest female player in our history
- The formal elevation of Chris "Dizzy" Smith to Omega Legend Status, becoming just the 6th Life Member to receive the club's highest honour

Congratulations to Therese and Dizzy on their well deserved recognition!

🏏 OMEGA LEGEND #6 - CHRIS "DIZZY" SMITH 🏏

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Chris "Dizzy" Smith has been formally recognised as the newest member of the exclusive Omega Legends group. Becoming just the 6th Life Member to be elevated to Legend Status following a majority vote of Omega Life Members.

Dizzy first pulled on the Omega colours in 1975 and played his final game in 2011, compiling an extraordinary 301 games, more than 3,200 runs, captaining multiple teams and playing a key role in five premierships. His service to Omega extended far beyond the boundary, serving on the committee for eight years. Twice as Vice President, coaching and managing countless junior teams, and helping shape the culture and values that continue to define our club.

Among his many achievements, one of Dizzy's greatest legacies is the creation and leadership of the Mike Smith Cup. What began as a tribute to honour his family became one of Omega's signature events, raising valuable funds for worthy causes while celebrating community, generosity and everything that makes Omega special.

From Life Member at the remarkable age of 24, to now joining the ranks of Omega Legends, this recognition is a fitting tribute to a true club champion.

Congratulations Dizzy. An Omega Legend in every sense of the word.

🏏 THE THERESE SMITH OMEGA MEDAL 🏏

Omega Cricket Club is proud to announce that our Women's Omega Medal will now be known as the Therese Smith Omega Medal, recognising the extraordinary contribution of the greatest female player in our club's history.

Across an outstanding career spanning 109 games between 1983 and 1997, Therese scored 3,082 runs, claimed 291 wickets, captained Omega for eight seasons, and led the club to two Women's Premierships, both as captain. She remains Omega's highest run scorer and highest wicket taker in women's cricket history.

A true pioneer of women's cricket at Omega, Therese set the standards that generations of players have followed. It is only fitting that the club's most prestigious individual women's award now carries her name.

Congratulations Therese on this richly deserved recognition and your enduring legacy at Omega.

🏏 WOMENS CRICKET IN MOORABBIN 🏏

With our captain and coach locked in for our women’s team, we’re inviting all women to play cricket at Omega CC in 2026/27!

Pre-season kicked off this week and will continue on Monday nights from 7pm at Cricket HQ in Moorabbin - the perfect opportunity to learn the ropes or dust off the cobwebs with bat and ball!

🏏 WOMENS CRICKET AT OMEGA CC 🏏

With test cricket back on the TV, it's time to start thinking about cricket at Omega CC in 2026/27!

Our club has a proud history of supporting women's cricket, with our inaugural women's 1st XI taking the field only shortly after Omega CC was established. Over the journey, our women's teams have brought us premiership flags, with the most recent won by Jordy Cooper and her team in 2021/22.

On top of our on-field success, the off-field environment of our club is welcoming to women and girls of all ages, regardless of their cricketing experience. This season, our team will be playing T20 matches on Sunday afternoons - perfect for anyone looking to challenge themselves in a new sport, enjoy a social environment, and stay active over summer!

🏏 WOMEN'S COACH FOR 2026/27 🏏

The Omega Cricket Club is pleased to announce the appointment of James Mathieson as women's coach for season 2026/27.

Assisting as Vice Captain to help our 2nd XI win their Quiney Premiership last season, we truly believe that James can help our women's side continue to develop and strengthen their game.

His passion for women’s cricket & sport runs in the family, but also evident given his Advanced Coach Accreditation from Cricket Australia.

We are stoked to have Matho on board and cannot wait for a huge 2026/27 season with him, another flag for the girls doesn't seem too far away!

🏆 WOMEN'S CAPTAIN FOR 2026/27 🏆

The Omega Cricket Club is stoked to announce that Tara Nunn will be leading our women's cricket program this summer!

After a home-and-away season in CSBW where our women's team rotated the captaincy, Tara has had a taste of leadership and will be stepping up to the role full-time in 2026/27. Her on-field skills speak for themselves, earning Nunny plenty of club awards including the Omega Medal in 2024/25. Having missed the first half of last season through injury, we have no doubt that Tara and her team will hit the ground running this season!

We cannot wait to get stuck into our pre-season, starting with our first indoor session starting at 7pm this Wednesday! These sessions are free to join for all players interested in playing senior cricket at Omega CC this summer - new players welcome!

Cricket HQ will be hosting our indoor sessions - please arrive early for a warm-up prior to our net session starting at 7pm sharp!

🏆 5TH XI CAPTAIN FOR 2026/27! 🏆

Stepping up to captain our 5th XI this summer, Amay Nagar is ready to bring something fresh to the team!

Amay is as loyal as they come at Omega CC, and is one of the nicest blokes going around. His humour and personality will get the most out of his team, in what promises to be a year of fun for our 5ths. On-field, Maysie will do it all - with the bat, bowling his offies, and offering plenty in the field. The 5ths are building a quality squad already, and look poised to have a serious tilt at the premiership!

Onya Maysie, we can't wait to see you develop as a leader and achieve success this summer!
