Just over a day since we opened our Summer Slam volunteer roster, and already members of our club have started putting their hands up and filling shifts.
Seeing that response makes me incredibly proud.
But we still have a lot of spots to fill, and this is one of those times when we need the whole Barkers community behind us.
The Red Earth Summer Slam is much more than another football tournament.
For eight weeks across October and November, it gives more than 600 young footballers another eight weeks of pure football — more touches, more games, more goals, more friendships and more memories made on the pitch.
But what many people may not realise is just how important Summer Slam is to Mooroolbark Soccer Club.
The funds generated through this tournament go straight back into our football program. They help us provide our players with a level of coaching, facilities, equipment, development and football opportunities that I genuinely believe is unrivalled by clubs in Melbourne's east — while keeping the cost of playing football at Mooroolbark at a fraction of what many clubs charge.
And we can only do that because of you.
Every person who cooks a snag, serves at the canteen, helps around the grounds or gives us a few hours of their weekend is contributing directly to what we can provide our players and families.
You don't need to give up your whole weekend.
Even one shift will make a difference.
If every family gives us just a little bit of their time, together we can run an incredible tournament, give hundreds of kids eight more weeks of football and continue building the football club we are all so proud to call ours.

🚨 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — JOIN THE SUMMER SLAM TEAM! ⚽
The 2026 Red Earth Summer Slam is one of the biggest and most exciting events on the Mooroolbark Soccer Club calendar—and we need our community’s help to make it happen!
Running across eight Sundays from 4 October to 29 November, the tournament brings hundreds of young footballers and their families to Esther Park for an incredible celebration of football.
The Summer Slam also raises vital funds for the club. It helps us invest in our Technical Director program, coaching, equipment and facilities, while keeping our playing fees below those of many other clubs of a similar size.
Every volunteer shift helps make that possible.
We’re looking for volunteers to assist with:
🍳 BBQ
8:00am–11:00am: Egg and bacon rolls
11:00am–2:30pm: Snags for lunch
⚽ Setup and Pack Up
7:30am–8:30am: Set up pitches and equipment
2:00pm–3:00pm: Pack everything away
You don’t need to help every week. Even one shift across the entire tournament will make a genuine difference.
Come down, meet other members, enjoy the atmosphere and help us deliver an amazing tournament for our players and visiting teams.

The Red Earth Summer Slam is back, giving more than 600 kids an extra eight weeks of football before the year ends — and we need the Barkers community to help make it happen!
We’re looking for volunteers across the competition for:
⚽ Morning pitch setup
🍳 Morning BBQ – egg & bacon, then snags
🌭 Afternoon BBQ – snags in bread
🦺 Morning & afternoon Game Day Marshals
⚽ End-of-day pack up
You don’t need to give up your whole Sunday. Even ONE shift makes a huge difference. If you can do two or three, even better!
Every dollar generated by Summer Slam goes directly back into our 2027 football budget, helping us continue to provide more football and better opportunities for our players.
