How we ended up here within 4 hours…
Friday, the day before it all begun…
Worked from the library for a few hours and had this moment of feeling I needed to get home (as if something was going to happen) nothing did so went about my afternoon, decided to pack our hospital bags even though I thought I was getting ahead of myself at 37 weeks. Went to bed that night with very mild cramps and what I think were Braxton hicks.
It’s 4am now on Saturday morning…
I’d started what I now know were contractions around 2am, started timing at 2.30am and woke Dan at 3am saying I think it’s happening. I don’t think he believed it initially then he was like oh yep ok! Called the hospital then Mum to come over and be with Sadie and by the time she got there I’m heavy breathing over the kitchen bench and she goes yep, this is it! So we get in the car (and yesterdays Jess knew she needed fuel but thought I’ll get it tomorrow) well with 5kms that then went to 0kms quickly we had to stop at 2 different petrol stations to get fuel after passing what felt like 100 closed ones on the way to the hospital whilst having contractions in the car!
We get to the hospital, they take us to a consult room and very quickly into the birth suite. It’s 5am by this point. Little did I know Kova would be out in 90mins.
Already 4cm dilated, I had no idea what would come next…
The increase in intensity, not knowing if I could endure another contraction like that, using the gas to get through and now looking back fully trusting my body to do what it needed to get our little girl here!
At this point I’m almost 10cm, I had requested the next level of pain relief, after 3 different nurses and 5 attempts to get an IV in during the heights of contractions (do not recommend) we finally got one in, yet no pain relief came. Then quickly progressed to the final stage and starting to push I was calling for an epidural as I didn’t think I could do it anymore. Yet, I had no idea that in minutes our girl would be here.
That feeling of her arriving is something I’ll remember forever! From the height of pain and determination to the feeling so calm and completely elated, Kova Grace was here. After a tear, we waite
