The People Who Care for Our Course 💚
Today is International Thank a Greenskeeper Day, a day to recognise the people whose work, knowledge and dedication help keep golf courses moving forward.
At Mossman Golf Club, our superintendent, Matt, works alongside greenkeepers Dan and Woody.Together, they are a close-knit team with a genuine passion for the course, and the pride they take in looking after it can be seen throughout the course.
Each day, they prepare the greens, mow the fairways, care for the turf, maintain the machinery and keep the course looking beautiful, all while working with Far North Queensland’s ever-changing weather and the daily challenges it brings.
Our volunteers are also an important part of caring for the course. The time and effort they contribute alongside the greenkeeping team help the course continue to develop and show what can be achieved when people genuinely care about their club and work together.
Today is also an opportunity to recognise Mr Allan Rudd, who has dedicated a significant part of his life to Mossman Golf Club, who played an integral role in the early development of Mossman Golf Club and remains a valued part of the club today. He has helped build, shape and care for this course, and his knowledge, hard work and love for the club are seen throughout its history. Even as he approaches his 80th birthday, he continues to be a valued presence around the course and an important part of its story. While he may not officially be a member of the greenkeeping team, his willingness to work alongside them whenever needed certainly makes him feel like part of it.
While today may be the official day of appreciation, as golfers, we can say thank you every day through the way we care for the course each time we play:
🌿 Repair your pitch mark, and another one nearby.
☀️ Replace or fill your divot, and perhaps another while you’re there.
🌿 Rake bunkers properly after use.
☀️ Follow signs and cart directions, particularly around greens, tees and wet areas.
🌿 Pick up any rubbish you see.
☀️Give greenkeepers and machinery plenty of room and right of way.
🌿 Give the team a wave or simply say, “Thank you.”
These are simple, practical ways for every golfer to support our greenkeepers, and show our appreciation, not only today, but every day.
Today, we thank Matt, Dan and Woody, together with Mr Rudd and all the volunteers who contribute their time, knowledge and care to Mossman Golf Club.
The course is our greatest physical asset, but the people who care for it are its true value. 💚
