Now with a new third edition, FIELD GUIDE TO WILDLIFE OF THE AUSTRALIAN SNOW-COUNTRY is a comprehensive guide to Australia’s high-mountain fauna and environment - an environment that extends more than seven degrees of latitude. Exploring the interrelationships between snow cover and wildlife, the authors combine ecological details and species accounts. At the heart of the book are detailed descriptions of the mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs, fish, insects and other invertebrates, including their distribution, breeding, food and habits.

With fully revised text and including more than 100 new photographs, FIELD GUIDE TO THE WILDLIFE OF THE AUSTRALIAN SNOW-COUNTRY is indispensable for the professional and amateur naturalist alike – and anyone interested in the rich natural world of Australia’s snow country. Its handy format means that the book is equally at home in a backpack or a reference library.

So it's time to look for Orange-bellied Parrots and the other three coastal Neophemas.
There is a number of people already involved but I would certainly appreciate anyone seeing coastal Neophemas over the next week to let me know where they are seeing them as we may not be covering all the areas they are using.

Hi everyone
Well here we are again with the weather starting to get colder and the OBP’s are on their way northwards.
The dates for this winters OBP surveys are as follows:

May 16/17
July 25/26
September 12/13

If you would like to be involved in searching for the elusive Orange-bellied Parrot (OBP) along with Blue-winged, Elegant and Rock Parrots across the range in coastal SA then please get in touch, let me know the general area you would like to participate, or let me know a specific site and I will sort out a roster.
Over the last few years we have had some success in finding birds, so they are definitely making their way to SA and the challenge is to find all the locations they use over winter.

If this sounds like something you might be keen to get involved with then get aboard. If you are a bit unsure about your skills, or how to go about a survey, struggle to identify the four Neophema species or just a bit unsure about venturing out on your own, let me know and I may be able to arrange a more experienced person to show you the ropes (this isn’t always possible though).

If you feel like a refresher on identification of the Neophemas watch the following webinar I presented to Birds SA a few years ago https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zjsjn6q_ErXaOXf_Fajw8xiiQpV_KNZc/view

Bird fossils in Naracoorte Caves, South Australia, are helping scientists trace how Australia's climate, habitats and ecology have shifted over tens of thousands of years.

'"Shorebirds are rare in the fossil record, so finding so many in one cave (Blanche Cave) was a surprise,” says lead author of the new study Karl Lenser'.
