We’ve had stories about rogue buggies attacking other players on a different green, buggies ending up in bunkers, but this story from Robe takes the cake.
Take care with your buggies people.

On what proved to be a difficult day to post anywhere near a good score, Clay Carpenter’s round of 76-10-66 was more meritorious than what it first appears.

Clay was the only golfer to better their handicap in a full field of male and female golfers. The next best was Specky on a neat 70 nett.

It took until the 6th hole before his scorer needed his red pen with a bogey and despite following that with another, they were the only discrepancies on what was otherwise a perfect nine.

He followed that up with a hard earned 39 on the way in for a nett 66.

Specky needs a pat on the back for his win in C grade with splits of 48 and 46.

David Lovie putted well all day to take the B grade prize money with 85-13-72. Even being reminded that he was putting well wasn’t enough to put him off😉.

Arguably the round of the day belonged to Marc Dalton (1) with two birds and a bogey on the front nine for a 34.

It was an up and down back nine with 2 pars, 4 bogeys, a double bogey but then a birdie and an eagle on the 15th for an A grade win with nett 71.

The Ladies faced the same difficult pin placements and tee blocks, despite them not playing a monthly medal. (So I was reminded😉). Anywhere close to 70 was an achievement that should be respected.

Bernadette Pedlar (31) was a 3 stroke winner with her nett 75 taking the chocolates. On any other day this would have been the equivalent of playing to her handicap. 3 pars in her round shows that she has the ability to possibly halve her handicap or better.

Similar for Liza Kirby in second (nett 78) with pars on the 5th and 14th. She held off the likeable Fiona Pulford in a count back, who did the same for third after another count back with birthday week girl Kate Hommelhoff, all on 78’s. All the best people were born in May Kate😉.

Shout out to Carol Downing for her birdie on the 15th 👏👏.

It was a revenge of the buggy day on Saturday as well. The guys putting out on the 5th had to dodge a wayward rogue buggy that didn’t want to wait for their owner on the first. Not sure who it belonged to because I couldn’t find a Col Leen in the results sheet?😉

Then I had my own oopsies on the third. Being the proud owner of a new remote control buggy I found out that when facing your buggy L becomes R and vice versa on the remote. Thankfully I had sand control on the wheels and it drove out of the bunker (sorry Dan).

I thought I had got away with it after doing a quick look around. But, no! Got greeted back at the toilet in the clubhouse with a chuckling Coops, which is never good. After being reminded about my escapade in the sand you know he’s never going to keep that story to himself. A table full of ladies fought over and amongst themselves to also remind me so I’m looking forward to changing my playing partners 🤣. At least I had an excuse, being another year older.

Anyway, arrivederci from me for a few weeks. The home of pizza and pasta awaits.
