Registrations are now live for the 2026 Big Chill!
The Big Chill is Australia's southernmost winter kendo event and it will be led this year by Damian Carmody-Stephens (7th Dan kyoshi). Damian Sensei has a strong background in high performance kendo, having represented Australian and coached both the Australian and Singaporean national teams.
The weekend's schedule will include mawarigeiko on Friday night, a seminar on Saturday, and on Sunday we'll cap the weekend off with a sunrise suburi and polar plunge session on the beach, followed by the chance to win the fabled Golden Rosella at the Southern Showdown kachinuki taikai.
This event is open to anyone who is a current member of the Australian Kendo Federation (or any equivalent associations elsewhere in the world).
Up for a challenge? Register now and tell your friends (especially the cool ones).
See you when the snow falls 🔥❄️🔥

And that’s a wrap on the 2026 Australian Kendo Championships! A huge thank you to the Queensland Kendo Renmei for putting on such a great weekend, as well as to the shinpan, volunteers, and everyone we crossed swords with.
A few tiger triumphs for Team Tassie:
⭐️ Liam had his first ever AKCs and did a great job in the men’s kyus
🥈Stan took out silver in the men’s veterans, and Stan and Katie did likewise in the kata teams
Most importantly, we all got to experience the highs, lows, learnings, and inspiration that you can only get by putting yourself and your skills on the line through shiai. Congratulations to everyone for their achievements.
Bring on 2027! 💚
