๐พ The Building Blocks of Sport
Fundamental perceptual motor skills are the building blocks of sport, physical activity and lifelong physical development. However, these skills are declining among children, with many Australian kids not developing key skills such as throwing, kicking, jumping, catching and balancing by the end of primary school.
Why does this matter?
Children who develop strong fundamental movement skills are better equipped to participate in sport, physical activity and the many physical and psychological experiences that come with an active lifestyle.
Through purposeful play and movement experiences, children develop key skills including:
๐ Locomotion & Balance
Moving, stopping, changing direction and maintaining balance.
๐ฏ Catch, Track & Intercept
Tracking objects, judging movement and developing hand-eye coordination.
๐ฅ Throw, Kick & Strike
Developing coordination, timing and the ability to control objects.
๐ง Cognitive Skills
Making decisions, solving movement problems and understanding space.
At Vida, our goal is to provide every child with opportunities to develop a love of sport, health and fitness.
Thatโs why youโll see a wide range of movement games and activities throughout our tennis sessions. They arenโt just about learning tennis โ they are helping children develop the movement skills, coordination, confidence and decision-making abilities that support them both on the court and in everyday life.
Build the foundations. Develop the skills. Create a love of movement. ๐๐พ
