The Nell Van de Graaff Classic has entered day 2 with a field of over 100 players.

You can see from the 2nd photo the spacious playing environment with two divisions running.

This weekend is the Nell Van de Graaff Classic on the Gold Coast. This is a wonderful event which is run at a 60+10 time control and has the unique twist of having a teams component.

There are also two divisions with the Junior under 1000QJ division alongside the Open division.

Following this event, we have holiday programs in Brisbane and Gold Coast across the next two weeks.

Lots of chess coming up and plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved and practice - especially useful for anyone heading to State Finals.

Far North Queensland Interschool is on today with over 500 players taking part across 9 divisions! Stellar effort from Andrew, Michael and Michael to make this happen smoothly and a big thank you to Trinity Anglican School, Cairns for hosting the event once again!

Next weekend we have the Gold Coast One Day Challenge being held at William Duncan State School! These events are always great events for students to get involved in as there are two divisions:

Novice: For unrated players only - this is also perfect for players taking part in their first weekend event (think a step up from interschool competitions in most cases).

Open: For rated players and those seeking to get a rating (that are ready for the more competitive games).

15 minutes + 3 seconds per move added on the clocks and usually around 8 games played.
