If you’re fiddling with your gloves or playing with a ball while someone’s speaking, you’re showing them you’re not listening.

Giving someone your attention is a sign of respect, whoever they are. It’s a lesson we want our keepers to take with them off the pitch too.

Growth. Resilience. Opportunity 🧤🔥

Despite battling injuries, Irene finished a strong season with Bentleigh Greens U15 VGYPL, earned selection in the FV TIDC program and represented Melbourne Victory VTC against a touring New Zealand team.

After a well-earned rest, she will return to pre-season training with Sam before making her U17 debut with Box Hill United.

A huge year and an exciting future ahead! 💜

Goalkeeper development is not one-size-fits-all. What an eight-year-old needs is very different from what a 17-year-old needs.
From movement, handling and enjoyment in the early years, through to technique, positioning, communication, game sense and consistent performance, every stage should build the foundations for the next.

Save this post and ask yourself: is your child receiving the right training for their stage of development? 🤔 

At ages 8–10, goalkeeper development should start with three things: movement, handling and enjoyment🧤

This is the stage where young goalkeepers learn how to move confidently, catch the ball correctly and fall safely.
But most importantly, they should love coming to training.
Build the foundations. Grow their confidence. Keep it fun.

Is your young goalkeeper learning the right skills from the beginning?

Ages 11–13 are where goalkeeper habits start becoming goalkeeper technique 🔥

Positioning becomes more important. Handling must become consistent. Communication can no longer be optional.
At this stage, goalkeepers should understand where to stand, when to move and how to organise the players in front of them.
This is where strong foundations become real confidence.

Is your goalkeeper developing beyond simply stopping shots?

At ages 14–16, saving the ball is only part of the job 🧠🧤

Goalkeepers must develop their decision-making, physical capabilities and game sense.
When should they come off their line? When should they hold their position? Can they read the danger before it develops?

This is the stage where technique must hold up under pressure and every decision can change the game.

At 17+, potential is no longer enough.
The focus shifts to performance, consistency and success. Every action must have purpose, and every session must prepare the goalkeeper for the demands of competitive football.

Can they perform under pressure? Can they recover after a mistake? Can they deliver consistently when the team needs them most?

A massive achievement for Pierre, who has been training with Sam since he was just seven years old.

Four years of hard work, courage and commitment have built a goalkeeper who is never intimidated by the challenge. Playing two years above his age and earning the MVP award says it all.
