Why does most of the population have lower back pain?

Lifestyle, diet, emotional stress, posture, poor breathing, injury, trauma, hormones, asymmetrical compensations or a combination of the above.

One thing that personally helped me was exposing my back to the pain and seeing how I could manipulate it with movement and breath, breathing into and with the pain, pulling the abdomen in, tilting the pelvis, contracting the glutes, sitting with the pain and seeing how it behaves with any interference.

This was slowly teaching my body to tolerate different positions that were once unsafe to be in.

Along side regular self massage, Overtime the pain got less and less and now is pretty much non existent.

Disclaimer, I knew it wasn’t a slipped or bulging disc or anything that require further investigation.
It was muscular, it was tight and angry.

Sometimes pain is a pathway, not a road block, the more curious you are the better you know what kind of pain you can work with and what you should avoid.

The relationship you have with your body is no different to any other relationship, the more time you spend with it, the more you’ll learn and understand what it needs, which means less time out sourcing to health professionals and more time developing your own systems suited to your individual needs.

Proximal stability (trunk/core) gives distal stability (limbs)

The more stable your trunk is, the more freedom your limbs have to move without restriction giving genuine mobility.

Doing swings in this horse stance position is the perfect example, Even though my trunk (everything from the hips up to neck) isn’t moving this is where the force is being generated from first.

My trunk is the foundation for my legs to maintain the position and the centre point in which my shoulders rely on to move affectively.

Without a stable trunk I would get exhausted quickly as my body tries to borrow from different systems in an attempt to stabilise, putting stress on my joints and causing compensation.

Train for strength in the right way and you will be flexible and mobile, you won’t need to spend excessive amounts of time stretching or doing endless mobility drills.
