The Marina's Roadway

Today Riverglen's riverside road has been transformed with the removal of potholes and uneven surfaces left behind by the recent floods. Local contractor Adam from Morc's Machinery has done a fantastic job restoring the integrity of the road's surface and providing residents with smooth access to their boats. This is an important step in our full restoration and re-surfacing of the road.

New hatchlings in the Marina

On Thursday these hatchlings were seen scurrying into the water near the marina's slipway. They may be Murray short-necked turtles, which are listed as vulnerable in South Australia. These turtles are omnivorous (eat both plants and animals) and find their food by prowling along the bottom of the water.

Recent visitors to Riverglen.

One of the Marina's houseboat owner's has been monitoring the arrival of seven Red Rumped Parrots - an unusual sight at the Marina. They nest in tree hollows, posts and stumps and we hope they will stay and breed here this Spring.

Safety first as River Murray flourishes 🦺💧

The South Australian State Emergency Service (SASES) is reminding people to exercise water safety on the River Murray as the number of visitors swell in the area.

Continued high flows into the River Murray over the past months has seen a burst of flora, fish, birds and other fauna, attracting visitors and locals alike.

Chris Beattie, Chief Officer of the SASES said a strong increase in recreational traffic on the water made it timely to remind people to enjoy their water recreation in safety.

“A vibrant and healthy River Murray is one of our state’s great tourist attractions,’’ he said.

“However, high flows can result in challenging conditions.

“We urge people to apply basic safety when using the river, including checking weather forecasts for your particular area and if flood warnings or advice have been issued.

The SASES advises the following:

CHECK
for flood warnings and local weather conditions before planning water activities

INSPECT
all safety equipment on boats before taking to the water

HIGH FLOWS
and debris can create risks for people in or on the water

ALWAYS
wear a personal floatation device on the river

PLAN
to undertake water activities with a ‘buddy’ or in groups when possible.

Riverglen life.

02/04/2021

Those lucky enough to be out on the river this Easter may see our Water Operations Unit who are conducting high visibility patrols of the River Murray to encourage safe river use.

As part of Operation Riversafe, officers are focusing on drug and alcohol testing as well as safety equipment compliance checks and enforcing lifejacket laws.

Good work by this skipper at Brenda Park today, who had all safety equipment present and tested negative ☑️☑️👍

Information about which lifejacket you are required to carry and wear can be found at https://dpti.sa.gov.au/ondeck/news?a=613823
