Prospect Pétanque Club

State mixed doubles today at Prospect saw two predictable results: Prospect turned on the sunshine and Van and Ha won yet another state title.

26 teams competed on a glorious winter's day, with the following results:
- Principale: Van and Ha defeating Ken and Deb Rodda
- Consolante: Haejung and Alexi defeating Charlie and Dave
- Knockout challenge: a very happy Valentina and Richard V beating Craig and Jean
- Conviviale ran late due to a tight semi, with Brian and Rae prevailing over Ned and Selina
- The very Conviviale saw Ken and Pam defeat Tim and Val.

Brett umpired and served tirelessly all day, David J fetched and helped with lunch and the Prospect crew all chipped in to setup, serve and clean up.

The South Australian state squad is heading off to WA next week to compete in the 2026 Interstate Challenge, which will be held next weekend at Subiaco Petanque Club. SA, Victoria, NSW and WA will each have two teams competing.
The SA squad of 14 players from Adelaide Hills, Adelaide, Novar Gardens, FAB and Prospect clubs has been training every Friday for past 6 weeks and had the final practice session today at Club De Petanque D'Adelaide.
Prospect players Gavin and Melissa are in the squad and we're all looking forward to a fantastic weekend of pétanque and catching up with all our interstate friends and competitors!
Full squad list is Craig Stewart, Selina and Ned Dally, Ross and Deb Coleman, Anne and Bruce Lucas, Brian Tuckfield, Rae Grierson, Tina Stockley, Jean and Kenny May and Gavin and Melissa Scott.

Last Saturday the "Saturday Competition" was held, in fine sunny weather. 19 People played for a total of $38.00. Two 45 minute timed games were played and two people Melissa Scott and Tim Pernham scored a perfect score of 26 points. Tim had 9 points scored against him and the winner was Melissa who had 7 scored against her, congratulations Melissa. The next Competition is on the 19th September

Our singles competition is up and running so do look at the sheet in the clubroom to see who you are playing. Games are to be completed by the middle of September.

We are open tonight from 6.30 so see you there for a game or two.

Well we were lucky last night to have a great meal to warm us up, as cool as it was, thankfully no rain considering what fell over the week-end, which was 70mls in 36 hours.
Even though it was on the cooler side, it did not stop games happening while dinner was being finalised. Val and Tim prepared a tasty meal of Tandoori Chicken served with Tomato Lentil Dahl, & Tomato Cucumber salad. So a big thank you to our cooks and to those that cleaned up after the meal.

We held the Wednesday night Melee on another cold winters night. Many of us stayed inside unless we were playing. Thankfully there was no wind so with our coats and hats we could play two good games of Pétanque. In between we were treated to a lovely meal made by Roberta and Pierre which included Honey Mustard chicken served with Rice and for dessert was Sticky Date Cake served with Ice cream.

Last night we held our Bi-annual quiz night at PPC, we had 36 people come along and share their unique talents in quizzing.

5 Tables - 5 rounds including General Knowledge, Sports, Entertainment, a Winter Quiz, plus final Stumpers,

Our bar staff joined in as table 6 with three participants and felt they should get bonus points for being handicapped by numbers. Alas this was not accepted and the finals scores were:

The Pigeons - 67 ½
The Usual Suspects - 63

Another cold winters night but that did not deter 40 die hards to come along to our Wednesday night session. We welcomed along two younger players thanks to Aurora, Jamie and Amy to give pétanque a try.

A lovely winter warming meal of Tuna mornay pasta bake, a Chicken bake and Vegetable Bake with a choice of bread was available. Cake with cream was available who were still hungry.

Thanks to our cooks Wendy and Yvonne and the assistance on clean up Marilyn T and Janet. Many hands make light work.

Last night saw about 35 brave souls come along and enjoy a game or two of Pétanque, we were lucky with no rain but it was cold. Petanquers know how to rug up!
Val and Tim were on kitchen duies and made a lovely warm meal of Spanish Meatballs in butter beans served with potatoes and peas. Just the thing to eat on a cold night. Thanks to the cooks and helpers with cleaning up after the meal.
