Robinson Motorsport Statement - NSW SSA Junior Sedan Title

I’d firstly like to start off with, my daughter, Erica Robinson, drove so well all night to record two heat race wins to qualify on the outside front row of last night’s NSW SSA Junior Sedan Title at Narrabri’s Northwest Speedway. She managed to lead the opening five laps of the NSW Title feature race in what was a great experience and then went on to drive an outstanding race to close in on eventual winner Lawson Clarke as the laps ticked down and greeted the chequered flag in second. As is the case with all SSA national and state titles, the top four cars were called for post-race checks.

I’m the first to admit that we, the Robinson Motorsport team, have limited mechanical knowledge when it comes to these Junior Sedan engines. We can’t thank both Brock Stubbs and Cameron Burnham enough for jumping in to help pull the engine a part to comply with the post-race checks. Upon the engine’s head and valve removal, it was found that the factory casting had been altered, which meant that Erica was disqualified from her second place finish.

I want to say how extremely disappointed the Robinson Motorsport team are in what has transpired. When we built the new car, it was built to a professional level with a high standard of presentation, as that is what we strive for as a team. This is by no means is a reflection on the car builder but a third party that both the car’s builder and our team trusted.

Following last night’s disqualification of Erica from the NSW Title, as I’m the car owner, I’m now suspended and therefore will not be able to compete in next weekend’s Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championship at Toowoomba Speedway in Queensland.

On behalf of the whole Robinson Motorsport team, I wish to express that we had no knowledge of the said oversight and nor would we know what to look for. We’ve been competing in speedway for over 40 years now and have never had anything like this happen before. We our heartbroken, firstly, for Erica, along with the rest of our family, our sponsors and supporters.

The Robinson Motorsport team would like to congratulate Lawson Clarke on last night’s NSW Title success.

And, lastly, although we are down now, the Robinson Motorsport team will bounce back from this and continue in the sport that’s a massive part of our family’s life.

Regards,

Mark Robinson

Dad, can I borrow your transporter? Erica is currently on her way to Narrabri's Northwest Speedway for the running of the NSW SSA Junior Sedan Title tomorrow night using her dad's transporter that is usually reserved for his V8 Dirt Modified.

The NSW Title is one of the biggest event's held within Erica's home state, so she's looking forward to being a part of the 2025-26 season running and hopefully she can pick up a strong result.

Stay tuned for an update following tomorrow night's running of the NSW Title.

ROBINSON’S QUEENSLAND TITLE TRIUMPH

For the fifth occasion in his career, Mark Robinson last night at Kingaroy Speedway picked up the Queensland V8 Dirt Modified Title spoils.

In what was an outstanding performance, the 47-year-old from Lismore in NSW turned back the clock throughout the event and thrived around the showground type of track and was rewarded by coming out on top in the Queensland Title deciding feature race. After qualifying from position two for the 30-lap event, he took control of the lead from the beginning and was never headed, despite late pressure from the second place Seiton Connor Young and battling with the loss of brakes aboard the NSW # 9 Castrol / Joel Jensen Constructions / Lickiss Fabrications supported Bicknell car.

“It certainly doesn’t get any easier the older you get in this racing game, but to win another Queensland Title is proof that I can still do it,” expressed Robinson.

“My team gave me a great car from the beginning of the night through to the end, so it was very satisfying to be able to reward them, along with all of the team’s sponsors and supporters, with the best possible result.”

For Robinson, this was his fifth Queensland Title victory, adding to his 2000, 2001, 2014 and 2018 successes.

Robinson’s attention now turns to the upcoming Australian Championship at Toowoomba Speedway in Queensland, and he couldn’t ask for better form to take with him into the event that he has won on four occasions: 2005, 2012, 2013 and 2022.

“I’m feeling really good heading into the Australian Championship, and I'd love nothing more than to score a fifth win,” enthused Robinson, whose dad, Steve, also won four Australian V8 Dirt Modified Championships (1991, 1992, 1995 and 1997).

“An Australian Championship weekend is all about qualifying well which gives you a good starting spot for the feature race, and after that, it all comes down to being able to maximise your position with solid pace and of course a bit of luck goes a long way, too.”

Before the Australian Championship assault early next month, the Robinson Motorsport team will head to Narrabri’s Northwest Speedway for this Saturday night’s NSW Junior Sedan Title with Mark’s daughter Erica. Like her dad, Erica has form on her side heading into the state’s biggest Junior Sedan event of the season.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Ahead of tomorrow night's Queensland V8 Dirt Modified Title at Kingaroy Speedway, we thought we'd revisit the first of Mark's four Queensland Title victories that took place at Brisbane's Archerfield Speedway back in the year 2000.

The then 21-year-old blitzed the Queensland Title field of the year 2000 by defeating Wayne Reynolds and Ray Klarich to the spoils and in the process set a new 30-lap record for V8 Dirt Modifieds.

Here's a copy of an article written about this event that was published in Speedway Racing News magazine.

Tomorrow night, Mark is shooting to add to his four Queensland Title wins: 2000, 2001, 2014 and 2018.

-Upcoming Robinson Motorsport Schedule-

* April 18 - Kingaroy Speedway - Mark (V8 Dirt Modifieds - Queensland Title)

ERICA BOUNCES BACK: After the disappointment of the previous night, Erica responded in the best possible way last night at Castrol Lismore Speedway by driving to the feature race victory in the Top Stars Junior Sedans.

With a feature race win denied the previous night due to a mechanical failure, Erica managed to regroup the following night and put in a near perfect performance from beginning to end.

In her heat races earlier in the night, Erica won three out of the four - finishing second in the other - and that earned her a pole position start for the feature race. For the feature race, she drove faultlessly by leading the entire journey and went on to claim a comfortable win. Erica's feature race pace was so impressive that she came close to breaking the lap record.

Following such a weekend of strong pace, Erica is now turning her focus to the upcoming NSW SSA Junior Sedan Title at Narrabri's Northwest Speedway on April 25 and 26.

* April 18 - Kingaroy Speedway - Mark (V8 Dirt Modifieds - Queensland Title)

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY: For Erica and the team, last night's Top Stars Junior Sedan action at Castrol Lismore Speedway was a bitter pill to swallow.

After the 15-lap feature race from position 2, Erica powered to the lead following a tight early tussle and went on to build up a comfortable lead in what was one of her most impressive drives. However, with six laps remaining, she had her left-rear wheel dislodge from her race car, which cruelly brought her awesome run to a premature end.

Heading into the feature race, Erica showed solid pace during the qualifying events, which saw her score a win, a second and a fourth.

Erica and the team are now turning their focus on bouncing back from last night's disappointment in the third and final Easter race meeting in the Top Stars Junior Sedans tonight back at Castrol Lismore Speedway.

It was a solid run for Mark and the team during last Saturday night's Victorian V8 Dirt Modified Title at Mildura's B&S Earthworks Timmis Speedway Mildura.

In what was his first visit to the Timmis Speedway track in five years, Mark enjoyed great speed throughout the qualifying events, where he ran first and third in his two heat races, which put him as the highest point scorer heading into the pole shootout.

After running fourth in the pole shootout, Mark started the Victorian Title deciding feature race from position four and was confident of being a front-running contender. During the opening lap of the 30-lap event, Mark's winning hopes copped a hit when he was collected in the left-front wheel by a rival car, and it led to a leak in the steering box and the eventual loss of power steering. With a loss of power steering, he fought on and went on to greet the chequered flag in sixth place.

The focus for the Robinson Motorsport team now is on the upcoming Easter Long Weekend where Erica will be running three straight nights in the Junior Sedans.

April 3 - Grafton - Erica (Junior Sedans)
