AJS MotoTrials Club of WA hold events at the club venue & at rural farm venues.

In MotoTrials, riders navigate rocks, streams, hill climbs, logs, drop offs & tight turns using balance, skill & concentration and are penalised for putting their feet down. AJS Moto Trials club hold events both at the club venue adjacent to Barbagallo raceway, and at rural farm venues.

Consider joining the committee - all positions are declared vacant at each AGM. So far we have nominations for Treasurer and Park Coordinator. We need all positions to be filled to function as a Club. Step forward 👣, get involved and help keep AJS MotoTrials functioning. 😮 Garry Connell Monday evening marked Garry Connell’s final committee meeting, as he and Carol have other plans for next year. The Club is deeply grateful for his focus, enthusiasm and commitment to the committee and the Trials community, particularly his tireless work supporting the Club, the Trials Park, and this year the State and National Trials Championships. 👏👏👏
Garry is now heading to New Zealand for a well-earned break but also to compete in the three-day New Zealand Trials Championships in Alexandra from 24 to 26 October. We hope the snow stays away this time. 🤞
The Club wishes Garry all the best and we look forward to seeing him riding Trials next year. 🙏

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗘𝗗

Given we are now at the season end and the AGM is soon................we need to bang the drum louder 🥁 🥁

For 2027 there are some current key members stepping down from the AJS MTC Committee

So there really needs to be some new people to put their hand up to help out with basic tasks of running the club and particularly events.

The aim is to spread the load so each task is easy to handle and not require much time input from each person

The Committee meets once a month using MS Teams from the comfort of home, it makes for a quick easy process and no commuting. Most meetings are done in 1 - 1.5hrs typically

We all have fun and get a lot out of trials as a sport but for that to happen it needs support from the club members to make it happen

NO COMMITTEE = NO CLUB = NO EVENTS = NO TRIALS SPORT

Nominations ware now being called for with the AGM being on 1st November

SO please shout out and put your hand up to help out

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗚 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗬

The Bill Young Memorial Trophy is a significant perpetual Club Award that is presented each year

This trophy is for the Club Person of the Year and is awarded to a person who has put themselves forward to help the Club in 2026.

In essence the award acknowledges the contribution of someone who “put their hand up to help run events, the club itself or the Trial Park, to make them happen and was always willing to help”.

Recognizing volunteers doesn't just make them happy; it fuels their motivation. A simple thank you can boost morale and keep supporters engaged. Volunteers who feel appreciated are likely to stay committed to their roles.

Without volunteers, the sport of Trials and the AJS Moto Trials Club does not exist within WA.

Volunteers are the backbone of the AJS MTC Committee and the Club, freely contributing their time, efforts and knowledge for the benefit of the sport of Trials as well as it's participants (the riders), and their families.

Recent recipients of the Bill Young Memorial Trophy have been 2025 the Club Observer Team, 2024/2023 Garry Connell, and 2022 Mark Austin.

Bill Young was an AJS Club President, committee member and hard working contributor who freely gave to the Club over many decades from the mid 1950's on-wards.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗬 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗬

The Sammy Miller Trophy is the most prestigious perpetual trophy that is awarded by the Club each year.

The trophy is based on the cumulative scores for Club Members throughout 2026 based on the x3 Summer Night Series, x6 Winter Series trials – with place getters being awarded 3 pts for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd (as long as there were at least 3 riders in a grade at the event).

The Trophy recognises the best rider each year in achievement and consistency - a hallmark of Sammy Miller.

For those of you who are uncertain, you need to look up Sammy Miller MBE on Google and learn about his huge achievements across motorcycle disciplines – and his huge impact on trials e.g. his famous Ariel 500cc trial bike with the legendary GOV 132 number plate; read about his more than 1300 wins in trials; and 11 consecutive British Championships and how he lead the development of the modern trials bikes – the Bultaco Sherpa T.

The Sammy Miller Trophy came about from the time Sammy Miller came to WA (1970) and rode a trial hosted by the AJS Motorcycle Club at Byford.

Sammy won the event with the list of riders and results being displayed in the AJS Motorcycle Club club rooms, which is also displayed in the Sammy Miller Museum in the UK – well worth a visit.

Sammy Miller donated the perpetual Trophy that is presented by the AJS Moto Trials Club at the AGM/Trophy day each year and will be presented this coming Sunday.

One of the Club's Life Members Mike Thorpe rode against Sammy Miller at the 1970 event.

Recent recipients of the Sammy Miller Trophy have been 2025 Jake Folini-Kearns, 2024 Rhys Dundon and 2023 Fynn Neale .

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗞𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗣𝗘 𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗛𝗬

The Mike Thorpe Trophy award is for the Most Improved rider for the year.

Most Improved by definition is where a riders performance has become dramatically more accomplished over a particular time period.

This is the rider who has visibly made the most strides in the development of his/her riding skills and event scores during the year either within their Grade or through going up a Grade level.

Mike Thorpe is a Life Member and long standing supporter of both the Club and the sport of Trials in Western Australia for over 55 years.

Recent recipients of the Mike Thorpe Trophy have been 2025 James Filear, 2024 Beau Magnall and 2023 Tim Newman
