Tackle Ball Rules
Offside rules & Starting lining up.
1.1-The ball is placed in the centre of the field with both Forward Attackers from both teams starting 5 metres away and 5 metres apart from the ball. After 15 seconds to set the umpire will blow their whistle. If a player is not more than 5 metres away from the ball by the time the whistle is blown then the umpire will call a penalty for offside.
1.2- After every goal or at the start of Quarter Time/Half Time the umpire will place the ball in the middle of the field and teams have 15 seconds to get set. If teams are not set then the umpire can call a fail to set penalty on that team.
1.3- When the umpire places the ball in the middle of the field the team lineups must be the two Forward Attackers 5 metres from the ball and 5 metres apart from each other, the Mid-Attacker 5 metres behind the Forward Attackers directly in line with the ball, the Mid-Defender 5 metres behind the Mid-Attacker, The two Defenders 5 metres behind the Mid-Defender on either side but 5 metres apart from each other & the Edge Attackers would be 5 metres apart directly in line with the Defenders on either side. If a team is caught breaking the formation rule then the umpire can call a penalty against that team.
1.4- In order for a player to fairly receive the ball from a forward pass they must be in front of the last line of defence as the ball has been thrown. If they are caught offside then it will be called an offside penalty by the umpire.
1.5- There are only permitted 8 players on the field from both teams at any given time.
1.6- A Defensive player is not allowed to at any given time hog the goals and goal area. They are not meant to be within the goal square if the ball is over the oppositions side and they are only allowed within the goal square if the opposition player with the ball encroaches on goal square or a defensive player has marked the ball inside the goal square and has to get set and throw the ball out of the goal square. The ref will call for a goal hog penalty if they are caught hogging the goals.
Tackle Ball Rules (cont).
2.1- If the umpire rules a tackle dangerous for example(Tilting while lifted, twisting knees or legs, landing on a players head when they are placed on the ground, targeting knees or any specific body part.) Then the umpire can call a penalty with a potential warning or send off depending on how bad the umpire thinks it is.
2.2- Players are not allowed to tackle another player from behind, if they do make first contact from behind then the umpire will call a penalty. Players are encouraged that if they find themselves in that situation to attempt to make first contact with the side of the opposing player.
2.3- Players are allowed to hit an opposing player off the ball to protect their own teammate as long as their teammate is in possession of the ball, a defending player engaging within 5 metres of the opposition to engage in a tackle can be hit side on or front on by another member of the opposing team. Being hit off the ball will only result in a penalty if. They are hit while the ball is not within possession of the opposing team or they are hit outside of the 5 metre radius.
2.4- Tackles are not permitted to be above the shoulders or below the knees or legs are not permitted to be used in tackles by the tackler in any way. If they are then the umpire will call a penalty and depending on the nature of the incident it could end in a warning or send off.
2.5- If the umpire deems a tackle a late tackle then the umpire will call a penalty or tackled off the ball then the umpire will call a penalty.
Basics of the Game.
3.1- Passing is allowed if the player is onside. The ball is allowed forwards, backwards & sideways.
3.2- If the ball is caught without touching the ground by either the offensive or defensive player inside the 10 metre goal square then it’s a mark. All players have 5 seconds to clear 5 metres from the player with the ball, if they don’t then the umpire can call an offside penalty. If the ball is caught by the offensive player inside the goal square then all players have to clear out from the goal square within 5 seconds as the player gets ready to take a shot at goal. After those 5 seconds are up then the umpire will blow his whistle indicating that the player can take his shot at goal while all of the defensive players rush in to try and stop the goal(There are not allowed to be more than 2 opposing players on either side of the goal square). This fair catch rule is called a free throw.
3.3- If the ball touches the ground in the goal square it is play on, a fair catch in the goal square is only given if a player catches the ball in the goal square fairly even if juggled by the opposition. Only will be play on if the umpire rules that the ball was touched by another member of that team in an intentional passing like motion.
3.4- The out of bounds rule applies if a team makes the ball go out of bounds on the sideline, meaning that the opposition will have 5 seconds to play the ball from where it went out of bounds and every other player has to clear 5 metres from the player who is ready to throw the ball back in. The play can only be commenced when the umpire blows their whistle after 5 seconds.
3.5- A fair tackle can lead to a turnover however that is only a fair tackle if the umpire rules that the player tackled with the ball was tackled with the ball with their knees touching the ground still with the ball without losing possession of the ball first. If the umpire rules the tackle a fair tackle then the team who made the tackle get the ball back while the tackler has 5 seconds to get set and all of the other players have 5 seconds to clear and give 5 metres away from the player with the ball.
3.6- 1 point given per goal(ball through the ring).
3.7- The ball is not allowed to be kicked at any given time. This will result in a penalty.
Penalties Given.
4.1- After every dangerous tackle or offside calls the umpire gives there will be a 5 metre penalty given and 5 seconds for them and the opposing team who caused the penalty to get set. The opposing team must be 5 metres clear.
4.2- If a penalty is given to a team 15 metres or less from the goals they seek then they will be given a free throw.
4.3- If a player is sent off they will remain off for 5 minutes as a player will take their place.
4.4 -Two warnings and the player is sent off.
4.5 -Goal Hogging penalty would mean that the team who did not commit the penalty would gain 5 metres from where the ball was when the penalty was caused. 5 seconds to get set for both teams and no players allowed within 5 metres of the player playing the penalty. The ball can’t be played until the umpire blows their whistle.
4.6- Kicking penalty would mean that the team who did not commit the penalty would gain 5 metres from where the ball was when the penalty was caused. 5 seconds to get set for both teams and no players allowed within 5 metres of the player playing the penalty. The ball can’t be played until the umpire blows their whistle.
4.7- If a player is hit off the ball(Only if they are not within 5 metres to engage in tackle with an opposing player with the ball or hit from behind) or tackled without the ball it will result in a penalty.
