The Steel City Malibu Club was formed in 1982 and has survived the ups and downs of membership numbers ever since. New members are always welcome.
The club is more social than competitive and most surfers are happy to have a good time without having to win their heat. The club contests are held at Dixon park on the second Sunday of the month from February to June and then September to December. Some of the crusty old members claimed it was too cold to front up in winter. The only exception to the rule is the May contest which is held on the

We've had a great start to the year! From heading north to compete with to supporting the Mattara longboard classic, and welcoming new members.

Steel City is proud to be apart of Mattara 2026, after a great turnout last year. Steel City recognises the importance of this event for longboarding in Newcastle.
We would like to welcome other local longboarding clubs to participate as Newcastle has such a diverse surfing community.

Huge shout out to all the SCMC crew who made the trip up to Old Bar over the weekend to take part in the first Interclub SCMC vs Salty Malibu Club Competition.
The Salty Crew were fantastic hosts and very welcoming to all members of SCMC, we are stocked this will be an annual event on both club calendars.
SCMC were victorious in 2026 but it was so close it could of went the other way. Thanks again Salty crew, see you next year!

What a great day for the first annual Tag Team event with Port Stephens Longboarding community. Surf conditions weren't the best for the competition, but everyone had an awesome day.
Thanks for hosting us at One Mile Beach for today's event and congratulations to Port Stephens for taking the event win.
Steel City Malibu Club Will be back next year in hopes to taste the glory of winning.
