YEAH WE ARE!

These last 23 years have been a real rollercoaster. It’s definately not for the faint hearted, but the lessons learnt along the way and our amazing members are big part of what Action is today.

As massive thank you to everyone that keeps us ticking over. It’s you that keeps our doors open! 🙏

In lieu of presents (😜) can you please do us a favour, and write us a Google and / or facebook review if you’ve ever trained with us. Small business is a tough gig and your efforts would be hugely appreciated! 🤗

I’m hoping these target pads are going to be the answer to my double decade (& then some) dilemma of having people hold focus pads for each other in classes.

I’ve never really been a fan of students holding pads for each other in classes for a couple of reasons…
1. It can end up being a pretty s**t work out for someone if they’re paired up with someone who doesn’t know how to hold the pads properly.
2. If the person punching the pads is a bit uncoordinated, not listening properly or punching too hard for the person holding the pads, they can end up injuring the pad holder.
3. The puncher can hurt their wrist if the pad holder doesn’t meet them properly by forcing the pads back at the puncher too hard.

Holding focus pads (& noodles) can take a bit of getting used to. You have to adjust to different people’s timing, coordination, power and listening skills. You need to anticipate when their punches are coming, how hard they will be & if they will or won’t be “on target”.

Both the pad holder AND the puncher need to be switched on!

I’m loving these though as it takes the possibility of bending your wrist back if the puncher hits too high on the pad AND they won’t get as sweaty, when people are sharing equipment, as pads do. That’s a win, win for me! ✅✅

Stay tuned for these to be incorporated in our “Boxing Fitness” classes IF YOU WANT TO USE THEM… We have the luxury of having plenty of bags to hit if you’re not keen on the idea 😉👍

Is resistance training important for men and women, to help combat the signs of aging like losing bone density?

YES, ABSOLUTELY but:
- what is resistance training?
- is boxing a form of resistance training?
- do you have to “pump iron” or “do weights” to gain the benefits of resistance training?

If the thought of going to a gym to do weights bores you, come to a “Boxing Fitness” class. You’ll sneak in resistance training without even realising. Aside from boxing, you’ll use kettle bells, slam balls, the sled, power bags, kick pads, gymnastic rings for push-ups and rows / pull ups (similar to circuit classes you see every where). Plus individual bodyweight exercises and with a partner, where you’re performing bodyweight resistance training exercises, but in a fun, slightly competitive way. So you don’t even realise you’re doing it.

Don’t believe any of the above? See pics above for clarity & give us a go!

Joining a gym because it’s only $7 a week and not turning up doesn’t help and you don’t have to join a pretty heavily priced circuit style gym either. We sit somewhere in the middle, but I guarantee you’ll feel better for trying us out.

We believe this so much so, that we’re offering you to try us out RISK FREE!

We are offering a FULL REFUND to any new members (no long term contracts - just a 4 week membership) if you feel no benefit from training with us.

All you have to do is:
- Join up for a 4 week block of either 8 or 12 classes in that period. (Within July or August 2026)
- Turn up and put the effort in (they are only 45 minute classes)

If you feel better for it at the end of the 4 weeks, you’ve won! If you don’t, hit us up for a refund! 🤷🏻‍♀️

You’ve got nothing to lose! Get it sorted now 😊🙌

Boxing is highly effective for physical health AND mental health. It acts as “active meditation” requiring focus on combinations and footwork. This distracts the mind from daily stressors, while intense physical exertion releases endorphins and reduces cortisol. People find non-contact boxing builds resilience, confidence, and provides a safe outlet for frustration.

With only 8 weeks left until Spring, we want you to try us out RISK FREE and just commit to only 4 weeks of either 2 or 3 training sessions per week to see if our classes can help make you feel better!

Can I spar at Action boxing & fitness?

I am happy for people to spar. IF they come in and CONSISTENTLY train AT LEAST two times a week at Action (in my honest opinion that is NOTHING)… AND when they “are ready”.

You need to have gone through the steps of learning how to punch & move properly. Then learn the defence side of things AND have done modified contact in our “Old School” classes.

Why can’t you just come in and spar?
We’re not interested in letting people just jump in the ring and spar without us seeing their “level” before they come in and start punching on with people. It can be dangerous and in my opinion, un professional putting two people in the ring together without knowing their physical capabilities, skill levels AND their personality types when under pressure. It’s a recipe for disaster! People’s entire personalities can change when they spar. I’ve witnessed it countless times in almost 30 years of experience in training, competing & instructing / coaching boxing.

I’ve sparred with people that seemed nice, but when it came down to it, didn’t want to have a woman be seen as being even the slightest bit challenging in the ring so they went way too hard. This can also happen when one is perceived to be more experienced, therefore can’t let the newbie “show them up.” I’ve seen very handy boxers & “nice guys” not know how to taper themselves and make people look and feel stupid in the ring & that’s not benefiting anyone except their own ego. I’ve seen “born again Christians” look like the devil himself has possessed him once sparring had started.
I’ve seen a nice, quite young guy in glasses jump in for his first spar and go flat out because he either had PTSD or just had that killer mindset drilled into them from the Army. After 3 rounds of being told to relax and settle down, it didn’t end well and he never came back. But these were all incidences that came from how much people can change when they step in the ring, and the more we as trainers can understand about them before they jump in, the better!

Personalities aside, even if you have done a heap of Boxing over the years hitting bags or focus pads, when you actually have people throwing punches back at you things don’t really go as planned at first. It’s a pretty foreign position to be in for most people, and there’s not many people that I’ve met over the years who have said; “well that was easy!” or “that all went to plan” or “I really looked like I knew what I was doing in there.” In fact, if they see footage of their first spar they usually laugh and say “wow, I thought I was going heaps faster & better than that”.

Honestly when most people first spar, (especially when they’ve just jumped in there without learning the contact side of things in a controlled, modified way). They look like a bag of cats fighting. It’s kind of like playing a game of footy without learning how to tackle someone properly first, except HEAPS HARDER! You just don’t do it. It looks s**t, it’s dangerous & it’s a waste of everyone’s time.

So in “Old School” we learn how to catch, slip and avoid punches. move around as you punch, counter punch etc. Then the modified contact continues on with drills like: “3/1/1”, “jabs only when ever you want” (as seen in the video above) & “body sparring”. THEN people will spar when they look like they can handle themselves in all of the above drills…

I get that it can be boring, but nothing hard ever comes easy and I have NO desire watching people who take no pride in learning the foundations, jump in and punch on with each other…. it totally bastardises the sport of boxing.
