NHRL respectfully asks all clubs to retire the No. 3 jersey this weekend in memory of Ali.

This small but meaningful gesture is a tribute to Ali’s life, her contribution to our rugby league community, and the lasting impact she had on those around her.

We encourage all clubs to support this tribute as a sign of respect for Ali, her family, her friends, teammates, and everyone grieving her loss.

Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and support as our rugby league community comes together to honour Ali.

Newcastle Hunter Rugby League Announces 2026 Finals Series at Lakeside Sporting Complex

The Newcastle Hunter Rugby League (NHRL) is pleased to announce that the 2026 NHRL Finals Series will once again be held at Lakeside Sporting Complex, Raymond Terrace, with the venue hosting Week 2, Week 3 and Grand Final Day.

The Finals Series will be played on:

• Week 2: Saturday, 29 August & Sunday, 30 August 2026
• Preliminary Finals: Saturday, 5 September 2026
• Grand Final Day: Saturday, 12 September 2026
Grand Final Day will feature 10 Grand Finals across all grades and is expected to attract more than 11,000 spectators, making it the final major rugby league grand final event in the Hunter region for 2026.

The NHRL Finals Series is estimated to inject more than $500,000 into the Port Stephens local economy over the three-week period, providing significant benefits to local accommodation providers, hospitality venues and businesses.

The NHRL is proud to have Port Stephens Council return as the Naming Rights Partner of the Finals Series for the second consecutive year. This valued partnership helps keep the cost of hosting the Finals affordable while ensuring players, clubs and supporters enjoy a first-class finals experience.

NHRL Chairman Kevin King thanked Port Stephens Council for its continued support.

“I would like to thank the Mayor, Councillors and Port Stephens Council for once again backing local sport. Their ongoing support through the Naming Rights Partnership and the use of Lakeside Sporting Complex allows us to deliver one of the premier rugby league finals series in regional New South Wales.”

With only a few rounds remaining in the regular season, many grades are still wide open, with teams battling for finals positions and the chance to compete for one of the 10 premierships on Grand Final Day.

The NHRL encourages the community to come along and support local rugby league throughout the Finals Series and experience one of the biggest sporting events in the region.

Vale Scott Dureau

This weekend, the Newcastle & Hunter rugby league community will come together to honour the life and legacy of Scott Dureau.

Across all Newcastle & Hunter Rugby League, players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect for a man who gave so much to our game, as a player, coach, mentor and friend.

Scott’s impact extended far beyond his achievements on the field. He will be remembered for his humility, positivity and the lasting influence he had on generations of players throughout the Hunter.

Our thoughts are with Scott’s family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
