You don’t lose your ability to ride a bike, but once you lose a forest it's gone forever - along with all the beautiful creatures that call it home.
The Link Road Forest is an essential part of the Lower Hunter's biodiversity. 574 hectares of beautiful bush cools down the surrounding urban areas, naturally filters and absorbs stormwater runoff, and provides much-needed beautiful green space for the people of Wallsend and surrounding suburbs.
This forest is a critical refuge and movement corridor for native species at risk of extinction including the koala, the powerful owl and the squirrel glider.
This magical forest is under threat from a Minns Labor Government led rezoning proposal which would see razing large parts of this forest for a luxury housing development.
This isn't the place for luxury housing. There are so many solutions to the housing crisis - densifying urban areas, stopping unlimited rent increases, limiting negative gearing, cracking down on developer land banking, and regulating AirBnb. We don't have to destroy nature and send wildlife extinct just to pad developers' profits.
Thousands of locals have taken action to protect this forest by listing it as a National Park.
Will you help? I'd be thrilled if you would join this call and take action too. Please sign the parliamentary e-petition.

The expert evidence is clear that the best way to create safer and more liveable neighbourhoods is to introduce safer speeds of 30km/h on local streets. Please sign the petition:

Back in February, Greens Councillor Joel Pringle was able to secure a commitment from the elected Council that 20% of the budget for transport, excluding the Western Corridor project, would be dedicated to active transport.
The draft budget is now on public exhibition and we three Greens Councillors are very happy to report that what’s being proposed is slightly higher than 20%
With the transport budget of $53.8 million, the total spend on footpaths and cycleways is $11.6 million. The biggest investment in active transport to date.
In order to improve public health, reduce road congestion and air pollution, it’s critical that Councils prioritise investment in active transport infrastructure.
You can have your say on how the city of Newcastle proposes to spend your rates until the 29th of May.
It’s called Delivering Newcastle and there are a few documents you can have a look at:
🔹 The 25-26 Financial year budget
🔹 The 4 year financial plan
🔹Setting of all Council fees and charges
🔹The 10 year long term financial plan
The link is in the comments below.
Even if you just want to send through a couple of lines as feedback, it’s important for the Councillors to hear from you.
