What will it take? Here are some ideas.

Fund the Hunter DFV Services — Newcastle Domestic Violence Committee 02/05/2024

How are you feeling? I am angry and heart broken. The instances of violence in our community continue. I plan to turn my despair into action by writing to my local members. If you’re looking for an avenue of action this might help. Mel.

You can channel your outrage about the horrendous rates of Domestic and family violence into action. One simple thing everyone in the Hunter region can do is send a quick email to your local State MP this week and urge them to advocate to the Treasurer and the Premier to:

1) Implement ALL of the priorities the "Hunter Domestic and Family Violence Consortium" outlined in their pre-budget submission to better support DFV specialist services, increase access to safe accommodation, and ensure a coordinated collaborative response to DFV in the Hunter region,

and

2) Increase funds to Men’s Behaviour Change Programs, and men’s early intervention and prevention services and programs in the Hunter.

You can find MP contacts here:

In the first 30 weeks of 2023, the Red Heart Campaign, led by Sherele Moody, has noted the killing of 35 Australian women. The majority have been allegedly killed by a current or former male intimate partner. This puts Australia on track...

FYI, on tomorrow night ❤️

We have again seen tragic circumstances surrounding domestic violence this week in our area.

A woman on average is killed every 9 days by a current or former partner. In the past 7 days we have lost 5 women to the hands of men, we will keep their names anonoymous in respect of their family and friends grieving during this time.

Join What Were You Wearing? for a peaceful and united protest against gendered violence and domestic violence towards women.

They are gathering from 5:00pm (with the march to commence at 5:30pm) at Newcastle Museum. The march will proceed to Honeysuckle Drive and finish at Nobbys Beach. The route is approximately 800 metres. If you are unable to walk that distance, please join them at the finish line for the rally.

All are welcome. Please BYO banner, water and a hat and wear something ORANGE OR PURPLE to help us get our voices heard.

The event wil go ahead no matter what the weather so if it’s raining, bring a raincoat or an umbrella.

Our shirts have arrived! Hooray. The global lockdowns caused a delay and we are very sorry about that. Our current Newcastle lockdown is likely to delay the delivery a little so please be patient as we devise a plan and get time to sort the shirts. This will now have to be completed by one person only. With thanks, Mel
