AVOID ADVICE FROM THOSE WITH VERY STRONG OPINIONS
The fitness industry is rife with gurus and zealots who will push their agenda for money, notoriety or an ego boost.
If you are training for health and wellness into old age it comes down to making positive (sometimes harder) choices. Cooking a meal instead of ordering a takeaway, learning a new movement instead of training the same every week or going to bed earlier so you don't need a pre workout before you train. If you take the hard road more than you take the easy road you'll probably be a better, healthier, version of yourself.
Heeding advice from those who assure you that there is a shortcut might help in the short term but eventually you'll run out of shortcuts.

BEING HEALTHY IS SIMPLE
Simple isn't always easy.
I think a lot of us over-complicate what it takes to be healthy. For the 99% of us who are not elite level athletes, we don't need to make things so convoluted.
Do these things well:
- SLEEP for 7 to 10 hours per night. This isn't always easy for everyone but you can do a few things to try and help. Setting a bed time and a routine to follow before bed, reducing caffeine intake in the afternoon and limiting screen time before sleep will all help.
- EAT predominantly unprocessed foods. Mainly vegetables of a range of colours, plenty of protein from a range of sources (protein shakes are ok but shouldn't be your first choice) and try to stick to unprocessed grains and carbohydrates as much as you can. It's ok to have treats in moderation!
- MOVE everyday. Take the stairs, walk to the shops, mow the lawn. Exercise with more intensity 3-6 days a week. Choose exercise that you enjoy and it won't feel like a chore and progress that exercise so that it doesn't become stale (go faster, go longer, lift heavier).
LOOK AFTER YOURSELF 🤸

KEEP MOVING 🚜
We've all got a few extra obstacles to overcome when training at the moment but let's try to use it as an excuse to work on something new or something that has been neglected rather than downing tools!
Masks are probably going to be around for a little while so If high intensity sweat sessions are your thing it might be time to try moving outside in the fresh air or it might be be time to slow things down and work on some weaknesses in the gym. When we're back to normal again you'll notice a difference. That niggly pain you usually have after a session might not pop up anymore.
The same goes for those with an injury. You should always come back from an injury having understood what might have caused the injury and with a plan of how you're going to stop that injury from happening again. Very rarely does an injury require complete rest so heading into the gym to work on weaknesses is the best way to keep moving in the meantime!
If you're looking for some ideas on how to change your training during this period get in touch!

LOVE YOUR GYM 🏋️♀️
Heading into the gym shouldn't be something that causes anxiety! Learning to feel confident when you walk into the weights room is a major step on the way to loving your exercise time!
If you are daunted by the idea of trying something new in the gym or even just walking through the doors, remember that everyone had to start from scratch at some point. Sometimes it just takes a little encouragement to take that first attempt and realise that you would have been fine on your own anyway!
I am all about helping my team feel confident to train independently to create a sustainable, healthy lifestyle!
If you are needing a little help with anything, or if you have any questions get in touch and we can see how we can work together 🤟

WORLD KINDNESS DAY ❤️
nusport are doing an amazing job spreading the joy today!
I'm very proud of the friendly culture at our gym and it's something a lot of members comment on. Let's keep it up!
If you see another gymmer looking like they're struggling unloading a heavy bar, setting up a machine or squat rack, give them a hand and see if karma gets you back with a little treat down the road!
