NEW SIGNING | ASH HULME 🦁

West Newport Cricket Club is thrilled to welcome Ash Hulme to the Lions for the 2026/27 season.

Ash brings an outstanding cricket résumé, having represented Footscray-Edgewater First XI, Essendon First XI, Yorkshire County First XI and Victoria Second XI, just to name a few.

In 2010, Ash was named Overseas Player of the Year, finishing the season with an incredible 1,511 runs and 52 wickets — an achievement that saw him recognised ahead of none other than Aaron Finch.

Experience, runs, wickets and plenty of cricket pedigree — we’re incredibly excited to have Ash joining the maroon and gold.

NEW SIGNING | AKEEM SPRINGER 🦁

West Newport Cricket Club is delighted to welcome Akeem Springer to the Lions for the 2026/27 season.

Akeem brings an impressive cricket résumé to West Newport, with extensive experience in Barbados, including top-level club cricket with Spartan, as well as experience playing Victorian turf cricket.

Akeem’s performances in Victoria have already earned him plenty of recognition, including the 2019/20 Roy Picone Medal as the VTCA Division 3 competition’s best player.

A talented and experienced batsman and bowling option, Akeem brings plenty of class and versatility to our senior playing group.

We’re incredibly excited to have someone with his experience and proven record joining the maroon and gold, and can’t wait to see what he can bring to West Newport.

A lion-hearted bowler who never gives up, Yaqub brings plenty of heart, competitiveness and energy every time he takes the ball.

A much-loved member of the West Newport family, Yaqub is the type of player every club needs — committed to his teammates, passionate about the club and always ready to have a crack.

We’re calling for Expressions of Interest for Under 15s & Under 17s for the upcoming season — and registration is FREE for all new junior players!

This isn’t just about cricket. It’s about building confidence, developing skills, making mates and becoming part of something bigger.

And importantly, there’s a pathway beyond juniors, with opportunities to progress into senior cricket, play alongside experienced players and eventually lead the next generation of Lions.

A young all-rounder who has been part of the furniture since he arrived, Ryan has become an important part of our playing group and a player who genuinely loves the club.

With plenty of cricket ahead of him, Ryan continues to develop his game and brings plenty of energy, competitiveness and versatility to the side.
