Sunshine Coast Carbon Repair

It's not often I am my own customer but an unfortunate incident pre New Years forced the hand on me. In a JRA moment (industry ppl insert laugh emoji here!), I picked up some wire from the road and it ended up in my chain causing the rear end to take on a new form. The derailleur breaking the seat stay and ripping the carbon dropout off the bike.

Disapopinted but not defeated, like all repairs... what is the best route to take for the repair? Luckily I had a spare broken frameset of the same era. I ended up cutting a dropout off the old frame and splicing it to my frame to avoid completely creating from scratch.

As expected, the bike is now operating and riding like nothing has happened. I have opted for no paintwork and kept the repair visible as a reminder that s**t happens and it's not the end of the world. Also validating that carbon repairs are a cost effective option and are reliable.

For reference, This would have been about a $600 repair. The cost to replace the frame, $4000.00.

A little project a customer has going. It’s a remote control boat capable of travelling up to 150kph! It just needed some carbon reinforcement inside the hull to stop it from twisting in half from the torque of the motor.
