Dear Hamersley Athletics Community,

As we count down to the opening of registrations for the 2026/27 season, I wanted to provide members with a brief introduction and preview of what’s ahead.

Fees and volunteering
We have decided to keep Hamersley Athletics’ portion of membership fees unchanged from last season, while also introducing multi-family discounts to provide some additional value for our families.

We are also introducing a new approach to volunteering, providing greater flexibility for families in how and when they contribute their valuable time. As a volunteer-run club, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we want to make volunteering as accessible and manageable as possible.

Competition and training
We recently had a very constructive meeting with the City of Stirling, Councillor Tony Krsticevic - City of Stirling and new Athletics West CEO Tyson Beattie regarding access to Charles Riley Reserve and balancing the needs of the athletics community with the City's ongoing maintenance requirements.

We appreciate the City of Stirling's collaborative approach in working with us to find this balance. Greater flexibility will be required from all users of Charles Riley Reserve, and our competition program has been developed with this in mind. We will also adjust our training arrangements following our final competition in December to support the planned maintenance works. We look forward to continuing this collaborative approach in future seasons.

Unfortunately, as we have been unable to find a Southern Training Hub Coordinator for the coming season, we will not be able to offer training at Karrinyup Reserve this season. We appreciate that this was an option that provided additional flexibility for some of our members, and we will continue to look at opportunities to provide alternative training options in the future.

New equipment and technology
Thanks to the support provided through a WA Government grant, we have invested in new competition and training equipment, including new javelins, discus and high jump mats.

Following successful trials last season, and with some exciting improvements to the ResultsHQ app by Timing Solutions, the committee has also decided to move towards fully electronic results recording and track marshalling this season.

As with any new system, there may be a few teething issues as we get used to the new processes. However, our goal is to make running competitions simpler and more efficient, particularly for our volunteers. We recognise the time and effort our volunteers already contribute, and we want to make their experience as straightforward as possible.

We are looking forward to another exciting season and continuing to build a strong, inclusive and sustainable athletics community at Hamersley.
