Mader Port to Pub with Hotel Rottnest Join us on Sat, 20th March 2027! The event is open to solos and teams of two, four and six swimmers. Registrations for the event will open in October.

Bronze medal winner for 'Event of the Year' from the World Open Water Swimming Association. 25km and 19.7km options from Fremantle to Wadjemup / Rottnest Island.

The Hotel Rottnest Port to Pub is an annual open water swim event that starts in Perth, Western Australia and finishes at beautiful Rottnest Island. The Port to Pub also includes a 25km ultra-marathon solo swim, open to qualified swimmers. Both races start at Leighton Beach and finish at the Hotel Rottnest where celebrations will continue with entertainment into the night. Check the website for details.

We’re excited to welcome Woodies Boat Storage & Cafe, owned and run by Jim McLarty and his family, as a sponsor of the 2027 Mader Port to Pub with Hotel Rottnest.

For Jim, Port to Pub is already a familiar part of life. Having grown up around boats and the ocean, he’s spent around 25 years skippering, supporting and swimming in teams across Port to Pub and the Rottnest Channel before deciding last year it was finally time to take on his first Solo crossing.

After months of training, his first 10km qualifier and plenty of tough sessions along the way, Jim completed the crossing in 7 hours and 42 minutes, with his family, kids and mates waiting for him at Rottnest.

As Jim puts it, “It was an amazing sense of pride and accomplishment to hit the Rottnest sand and then cross the finish line. It was a real privilege to be there with family and great mates.”

That same sense of family and community sits at the heart of Woodies. Based at Woodman Point, it’s a family-run boating hub where long-standing staff know many customers by name and often their coffee order too!

It’s fantastic to have Jim, his family and the Woodies team on board for 2027, supporting an event and community they’ve been part of for so many years.

We’re excited to welcome Castledex and Noble River Estate , owned by Bruce Dewar, as sponsors of the 2027 Mader Port to Pub with Hotel Rottnest.

For Bruce, the Rottnest crossing is much more than an event. Over the past two decades, he’s completed an incredible 16 solo crossings, along with several team swims, with one of his most memorable being the chance to swim Port to Pub alongside his four sons.

Earlier this year, Bruce suffered a serious mountain biking accident that left him with five fractures in his neck, narrowly avoiding spinal cord injury. His recovery has meant some time away from the water, but it hasn’t changed what he’s working towards.

His next goal? Getting back in the ocean and, one day, reaching 20 solo crossings to Rottnest.

In 2027, Bruce will be part of Port to Pub in a different way, supporting the event through his two businesses, Castledex and Noble River Estate, and bringing together family, staff and clients to be part of the day.

Introducing our 2027 Official Event Artist - James Down!

We’re so excited to finally reveal James as the artist behind the 2027 Mader Port to Pub with Hotel Rottnest artwork!

Full of colour, character and plenty of James’s trademark style, the painting brings together familiar scenes from Fremantle, the crossing and Rottnest Island.

The original painting will be auctioned at our Port to Pub After-Party on Thursday, 1 April at Gage Roads Brewery, with all funds raised going directly to our charity partner Perth Children's Hospital Foundation 💙

You’ll also see James’s artwork come to life across our 2027 Port to Pub merchandise range, which we can’t wait to reveal soon!
