Round 2 of Interclub commences at 9am this Thursday (Show Day).

It’s likely to be the last opportunity to compete at the Domain Athletic Centre before the track is resurfaced in early November.

The forecast is for great conditions, with light winds and temperatures increasing throughout the morning.

By the time it gets hot, you will be home and hosed with a PB under your belt.

We are pleased to advise that our website issues have been rectified, and the results from Rd 1 are now online.

We have also posted an updated calendar, with one significant change. On November 28, we will not be hosting an interclub round, but will be encouraging all our athletes and volunteers to go to Launceston for Interclub. This program has been chosen partly because it includes Hammer, Steeple and Hurdles, which are the events who won't be having at Clarence High. The program for that is now included in our season program, and if there are any other events you would like potentially included, please let us know by Thursday 29 October, and we will pass these rrequests on for consideration.

See you Thursday morning for Rd 2.

One further reminder in relation to registrations leading into Rd 1 on Saturday, if you are using a Tasmanian Government Ticket 2 Play voucher to do your registration, you need to do this prior to Saturday, as these need to be done through the Athletics Tasmania office.

Athletics South doesn't have the facility to do these, so don't leave it to Saturday to do.

Athletics South’s Track and Field Season kicks off this Saturday, with Round 1 of Interclub commencing at 1pm.

Here’s a few things you need today know if you are planning on competing:

1. You will need to be registered with your club of choice. See our website for details of the options available:

https://www.athleticssouth.org.au/our-clubs

2. Your registration number will be available from your Club. You will need this in order to enter events and you will need to wear it when competing. It helps immensely if you register before Saturday, so don’t leave it until the last minute.

3. You will need your registration number for the whole season. Don’t throw it out after Round One!

4. The season calendar and program of events is available on the AS website:

https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/5c79b6c7ee880758d3b74cf3/6aac9767cdf6f47730db898f_2627%20Calendar%20V1A.pdf

Noting that we are going to have to be a bit flexible this year due to the track being resurfaced in November. However, there will still be a full season of Interclub competition, with some meets held at Clarence High School whilst the DAC is out of action.

4. Entries for events need to be in no later than 30 minutes prior to the advertised start time. Give yourself plenty of time to collect your registration number and lodge your entry.

5. Track events are seeded in accordance with your estimated entry time. In theory, this means that there will be runners of a similar standard in your race. If you don’t enter an estimated time, you will automatically be placed in the last (and slowest) heat.

6. Go to your event about 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Officials will confirm that you are present and provide you with details of your lane draw or the order of competition.

7. Relay entries are done through your Club.

8. The whole meet is run by volunteers. Make yourself known at the respective event sites if you are able to help out (NB you will need a WWVP Card).

9. A word of thanks for the volunteer officials is always appreciated.

10. Enjoy the moment. Interclub is not the Olympics and the emphasis is on personal achievement, social interaction and having fun.

We have now received confirmation that the Domain Athletics Centre will close from Monday 2 November for resurfacing works. This means we'll still have the first two weeks of competition at the Domain as scheduled.

From Saturday 7 November, competition will move to Clarence High School, and we thank Clarence City Council for its support in making this possible. Further details and competition programs will be released in the coming weeks.

We know many members have questions about registration fees. While the venue change will impact our season, Athletics South will continue to incur similar operating costs and is also likely to lose significant canteen revenue. As a result, fees will need to remain unchanged.

We are also working with Hobart City Council to secure training opportunities where possible and thank Northern Tasmanian Athletics who have graciously offered to welcome registered athletes to compete at St Leonards during the closure.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to returning to a newly resurfaced Domain Athletics Centre in early 2027.
