parkrun (http://www.parkrun.com/) is a not-for-profit organisation established in the United Kingdom in 2004 to provide a free, weekly, timed 5km running event to every community that wants one. There are now 170+ events around the world with more than 15,000 runners participating every Saturday morning. The parkrun record is 14:00 set by Craig Mottram on 10 June, 2006. Events are organised by local volunteers with support from parkrun.

Today, in cooler and more precipitous conditions (but we could do with some more please), 170 parkrunners and walkers and everyone in between as well as 12 volunteers turned out at North Lakes for event #691. Thanks to all our vollies.

Fun fact - one of our parkrun first timers (not as in a visitor) registered for parkrun in 2015, so at that rate we will be giving them a shout out for their 50th in 2565.

Next week is our 14th birthday. More details to be posted later.

(The “rainmaker” is very lucky she didn’t get her surreptitious selfie posted too!)
