Remember the battle to maintain fishing access
To Fish Rock, at South West Rocks?
First greenie move is always, recruit the local dive company
In exchange for providing ‘evidence’
that some type of fish is threatened by angling
their payoff is a monopoly on a dive site money machine
in the case of South West Rocks a NSW Greens MP
Went on a dive with the local dive company
lo and behold, she found a grey nurse shark with a hook in its mouth
a heavy game fishing hook tied directly to yellow braid
Kind of dramatic but good contrast for the pics
Fast forward to 2026
Today's fishing access is being fought at north Mona Vale
And guess what! Crazy coincidence

FANTASTIC! NSW Fisheries’ latest pronouncement on the kingfish bans. Which in just six hours receives 137 replies, every one blasting their bias and dishonesty. Well done lads and thanks to Greg Stevenson:

Why can local fishers still see kingfish if the stock assessment says spawning biomass is very low?

Local sightings are important, but they do not provide the same information as a stock assessment. A stock assessment looks across the NSW component of the stock and estimates the mature fish available to breed and support future generations. That is why the draft Yellowtail Kingfish Harvest Strategy focuses on spawning biomass and long-term rebuilding.

Picking a break in the weather last week, Darcy Scott and his five-year-old daughter Reivi, headed out from Queenscliff and into the Lonsdale Bight after squid.

In previous trips, Darcy had found the squid a little slower than usual. However, that wasn’t the case on this occasion with both Darcy and Reivi pulling them in hand over fist until each had their bag limit catch.
