Sport and recreation play a vital role in bringing young people together, building confidence, creating connections and supporting positive physical and mental wellbeing.

Recently, almost 100 students from 8 schools came together in Devonport for our Year 9-10 Basketball 3v3 Gala Day, delivered in partnership with the North West High School Sports Association.

The day was a fantastic celebration of participation, teamwork and sportsmanship, with students enjoying the chance to connect throughout the competition. A huge congratulations to all of our school champions, and to every student who stepped onto the court and gave it their best.

Thank you to the schools, teachers and staff who supported the event and helped make the day such a success. Opportunities like these highlight the important role sport and recreation play in strengthening communities and helping young people feel connected, active and engaged.

A special thank you to the Devonport Basketball Club for their help and support with equipment and the Canteen and the Devonport City Council team at the Devonport Recreation Centre for their assistance to pull off this event.

A huge thank you to for supporting a surfing clinic for our Reclink homeschool group in South Australia.

The kids were so eager to hit the water and have some fun, showing plenty of bravery in the freezing conditions!

Safe to say, everyone had a fantastic time and we think a few of them may have caught the surfing bug! A shout-out to Surfing Australia and Surf Culture Crew for making it such a great experience.

With thanks to Macquarie Sports for helping make opportunities like this possible.

For 10 weeks, Reclink provided a bus service to the Mallacoota community for weekly trips to the closest public pool in Pambula, NSW over 70km away. It was a great success and the impact reached far beyond the water.

Thanks to this free bus service, residents of all ages, from children under seven to adults in their seventies, enjoyed the opportunity to stay active, improve their wellbeing, and connect with others. For many older participants, the service removed the barrier of travelling long distances, making it possible to attend the pool for rehabilitation, gentle exercise, or simply the joy of a swim.

The journey itself became just as important as the destination. Friendships were formed across generations, stories were shared, and laughter filled the bus, thanks in no small part to our wonderful driver, whose kindness and humour made everyone feel welcome.

Many participants also enjoyed stopping in Pambula after their swim for a coffee, cake or a visit to the markets, creating opportunities to stay socially connected and support local businesses.

At Reclink Australia, we believe that recreation creates connection. Programs like the Swim Bus help reduce isolation, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and strengthen communities one journey at a time.

A MESSAGE FROM RECLINK CONNECT
On behalf of Reclink Connect staff and volunteers, we want to thank all our participants for making—and continuing to make—this program a success. Together, we’ve created a space where people can improve their health and well-being through movement and connection.

What began as a single online yoga class during COVID has grown into a cornerstone of our organization, now offering approximately 600 classes and providing around 4,000 participation opportunities each year.

We’re thrilled to once again offer the Reclink Connect program over the Christmas and New Year break—a time of great need for many, especially those living alone or in remote communities.

As we head into the festive season, we’re excited to announce a couple of special additions to the schedule:

Tuesday, December 17th, at 11:15 AM AEDT
Our good friend Isaac will lead an AUSLAN-signed Strength at Home class. It has been inspiring to watch Isaac develop both his delivery skills and class content. Please join us to support his passion for inclusive exercise and communication.

Thursday, December 19th, at 1:00 PM AEDT
FAREWELL 2024
We’ll gather to reflect on the year, celebrate the contributions of everyone involved in the Reclink Connect program, and bid farewell to 2024.

Following the meeting, at 2:00 PM AEDT, Sophie will lead the final Dancefit class of the year—everyone is invited to join and get their boogie on!

Thank you for being part of this journey, and we look forward to continuing to connect, move, and grow together.

Kindest regards,
Rhan, Brendan and the Reclink Connect team.
