Starting something new can feel a little uncertain — especially for children who have never tried martial arts before.

At Keiko Dojo, beginners learn step by step in a supportive environment, developing not only basic karate skills, but also focus, discipline and confidence along the way.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching children, adults and students with different learning needs, as well as supporting students through competition and personal development.

At Keiko Dojo, training is about more than techniques. We focus on discipline, confidence, respect and steady growth through traditional Karate-do.

EPISODE 02 — What do we really train in Karate?

空手道，鍛鍊的只是拳腳嗎？

Punches. Kicks. Kata.
These are all part of Karate.

But true training goes beyond movement.

In every practice, we are developing three things together:

心・技・體
Mind · Technique · Body

We train the mind.
We refine technique.
We develop the body.

They are not separate parts of Karate.
They influence one another, and grow together through every repetition.

Because technique without control is incomplete.
Strength without direction has no purpose.
And progress begins with the way we face ourselves.

It begins with the mind.
一切，始於「心」。

Our new 10-week Saturday training term commences on 3 October in North Ryde, welcoming children aged 5+ and adults — no previous karate experience required.

More than just learning punches and kicks, our training focuses on developing discipline, respect, confidence and focus through traditional Karate-do.

A big thank you to the children and families who joined our Keiko Dojo Free Trial Class today.

It was wonderful to see the students learning, trying, listening and enjoying their first experience of Karate-do.

Today was only the beginning.

「稽古」不只是 practice.

It is to reflect, to learn from the past, and to continue refining ourselves today.

In Karate, progress is not only about learning more techniques.
It is also about how we practise, how we understand, and how we grow through every repetition.

And through that practice, we also refine the mind.

Learn from the past.
Refine yourself today.

This is the meaning behind our name — Keiko Dojo 稽古道場.
