POV: When your lower back feels stiff 😩

Your Quadratus Lumborum (QL) might be contributing to that tight feeling!

📍 What is the QL?

The QL is a deep muscle on either side of your lower back, connecting your pelvis, lumbar spine and 12th rib.

It helps with:
✅ Stabilising your lower back and pelvis
✅ Side bending your spine
✅ Supporting everyday movement and posture

💡 Why does it get tight?

Prolonged sitting, repetitive movements, sustained positions and physical activity can all contribute to stiffness around your lower back.

🧘 Try this simple QL stretch!

1️⃣ Rest your elbow or forearm on a bed or bench.

2️⃣ Cross your outside leg behind the other.

3️⃣ Gently shift your hips away from the support while leaning your upper body towards it.

4️⃣ Feel a comfortable stretch along the side of your lower back.

⏱️ Hold for 20–30 seconds.
🔁 Repeat 2–3 times on each side.

✨ Why try it?
✅ Helps relieve feelings of tightness
✅ Encourages lower-back mobility
✅ Improves flexibility and movement comfort
✅ Great as a movement break after prolonged sitting

Remember, stretching is one part of keeping your body moving well. Strengthening and regular movement matter too!

💜 At StretchLab, we believe better movement starts with better mobility!

📌 Save this stretch and give it a try!

💻🏋️ Sitting all day or struggling with overhead mobility? Try this stretch!

The Table-Supported Thoracic Extension Stretch is a simple but effective mobility drill for office workers, gym-goers, and Olympic weightlifters.

✅ Improves thoracic spine mobility
✅ Stretches tight lats and triceps
✅ Helps improve overhead shoulder movement
✅ Reduces the feeling of upper-back stiffness
✅ Supports better positioning during the clean and jerk

🏋️ For Olympic weightlifters: Adequate thoracic mobility can help maintain a more upright torso during the clean, while good shoulder and upper-back mobility support a stronger overhead position during the jerk.

How to perform:

1️⃣ Place your elbows on a stable table, shoulder-width apart.
2️⃣ Push your hips back and gently lower your chest between your arms.
3️⃣ Keep your neck relaxed and avoid excessive lower-back arching.
4️⃣ Hold for 15–20 seconds and repeat 2–3 times.

💡 Whether you’re sitting at a desk or lifting weights overhead, mobility matters!

📌 Save this stretch and add it to your next warm-up or office break!
