🐴 HORSE WELFARE STARTS WITH NOTICING

Our horses can’t tell us in words when something is wrong — but they are constantly communicating through their behaviour, movement and body language.

Take a moment before you ride to really look at your horse.

👀 Are they moving comfortably?
🥕 Are they eating and drinking normally?
🦵 Is there any heat, swelling or tenderness?
😌 Are they behaving like their usual self?
🐎 Is their tack comfortable and correctly fitted?
🌡️ Are the weather and conditions suitable for the work you are asking them to do?
Sometimes the best horsemanship decision is to change the plan, reduce the workload or not ride at all.

Good horse welfare isn’t just what happens when something goes wrong — it’s the small checks and decisions we make every single day.

For the first time in around **200 years, a Przewalski’s horse foal has been born on the steppes of Central Kazakhstan.** 🐴💛

The birth marks an extraordinary milestone in efforts to return this remarkable wild horse to landscapes where it once roamed freely.

Przewalski’s horses are considered the world’s last truly wild horse species. Once widespread across the vast grasslands of Central Asia, they disappeared from Kazakhstan roughly two centuries ago and were later declared extinct in the wild altogether.

Their survival is one of conservation’s great comeback stories.

A small population survived in captivity, allowing carefully managed breeding programmes to eventually rebuild their numbers. In recent decades, Przewalski’s horses have successfully been returned to parts of Mongolia and China, and in **2024 the first animals were reintroduced to Kazakhstan’s Altyn Dala region** as part of an ambitious long-term restoration programme.

Now that project has reached one of its most significant moments yet: **a foal has been born on the Central Kazakh steppe.**

It means these horses are not simply being transported back to their ancestral range — they are beginning to establish a new generation there.

After an absence measured in centuries, the sight of a Przewalski’s mare standing beside her foal on the Kazakh steppe represents something once thought almost impossible.
