💛 A COMP IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT.

Behind every great competition is a team of incredible people who show up, roll up their sleeves, and put in the work to make it all happen.

To every volunteer who helped us over the weekend at our MD Lift Off III, THANK YOU! 🙌

From setting everything up the day before, to helping everything run smoothly on the day, and staying back to pack it all away at the end. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Your time, energy, hard work and willingness to jump in wherever needed are what make events like this possible. It’s people like you who make our community so special. ❤️

A huge thank you as well to Grill'd Healthy Burgers Glen Waverley🍔 for supplying burgers to fuel our volunteers on the day. We appreciate your support!

Competitors might be the ones on the floor, but it takes a whole team behind the scenes to bring a competition to life.

To everyone who played a part. We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re incredibly grateful. 💪

Thank you for showing up and making it happen!

One year ago, Bruce walked through our doors, and not long after, decided he wanted to have a crack at powerlifting. Fast forward to Sunday, and he stepped onto the platform for his very first competition! 🔥

Safe to say, he’s caught the powerlifting bug, and we couldn’t be happier. We’re already looking forward to seeing what he does at his next one!

Despite the nerves leading into comp day, Bruce did what Bruce does best; kept his composure, trusted his training, and got the job done.

And what a day he had! 👏

🏋️ Squat: 180kg
💪 Bench: 95kg
🚀 Deadlift: 185kg (15kg more than he’s ever lifted and moving like butter!)

Three huge lifts, three massive milestones, and an incredible first competition under his belt.

Bruce, congratulations on an amazing day! It’s been awesome watching your journey over the past year, and we can’t wait to see where this powerlifting journey takes you next.

The first one is in the books. Now we’re just getting started. 🔥

🦴 Osteoporosis doesn’t have to mean an inevitable decline.

A diagnosis of osteoporosis can feel daunting, but it doesn’t mean your best years of strength and independence are behind you.

Your bones, muscles and overall health can adapt to the right stimulus. 💪

Strength training is one of the most powerful tools we have to support bone health, build muscle, improve function and maintain independence as we age.

While results will vary and osteoporosis requires an individualised approach, the right training and lifestyle changes can make a meaningful difference to your health and quality of life.

Ageing is inevitable. Declining strength and function don’t have to be.

Want to understand the science behind ageing well and what you can do to take control of your health?

🎓 Join us at Strong for Life: The Science of Ageing and discover how strength training can help you build a stronger, healthier future.

Bringing strength training to the wider Allied Health community 💪

We had the pleasure of welcoming the entire Allied Health team from HEALTHY BODIES PHYSIOTHERAPY CHELTENHAM to MD Strength for a professional development session delivered by Mark.

The session explored powerlifting programming and the principles of strength training, with a focus on how these concepts can be applied in an allied health setting to help clients build strength and confidence.

It was an engaging and informative session filled with great discussion, and we hope the team took plenty away to apply in their work!

We finished the day with a fantastic dinner and great company. 🍽️

A big thank you to the Healthy Bodies team for joining us. We loved the opportunity to share knowledge and collaborate on helping people get stronger!

Why are you spending your time and money on approaches that may be doing little to improve your bone health?

When it comes to osteopenia, muscle strength and bone density, the right kind of strength training matters. Evidence supports progressive resistance training as an important tool for improving strength and supporting bone health as we age.

But knowing that strength training works is one thing. Understanding how to train, why it works, and how to apply the science is what makes the difference.

💪 Don’t waste your time guessing. Learn what the evidence says.

Another block in the books, and our crew has been putting in WORK! 💪 Some massive milestones, and plenty to celebrate. Let’s get into it. 👇

🏋️‍♀️ ERMA — THE COMEBACK IS ON!

Erma has just wrapped up a HUGE end-of-block test, and these numbers are something else!
🍑 125kg squat × 5 — that’s 5kg ABOVE her comp best for 5 reps!
💥 65kg bench press — 5kg ABOVE her comp best!
🚀 160kg deadlift × 4 — just 2.5kg shy of her comp best for 4 reps!

And these numbers mean even more when you know the story behind them. Erma was meant to compete late last year before breaking her wrist right before comp day. Now she’s building back up and heading into her first competition since the injury — and already exceeding some of her previous competition numbers in training!
We cannot WAIT to see what she puts on the platform. 👀🔥

💥 NATE — 160KG BENCH PRESS!

Nate has just hit a 160kg bench press, putting him 7.5kg ABOVE the competition best he only set just over a month ago!
The progress is INSANE. When you’re consistently showing up, putting in the work and building on each block, things can move quickly — and Nate is proving exactly that.
What’s next?! 👀

🍑 ARO — THE NEWBIE GAINS ARE REAL!

Aro has finished her SECOND block and, once again, she’s smashing through PBs!
✅ 105kg squat × 6 — and looking SUPER easy (definitely NOT RPE 9 😏)
✅ 50kg bench × 6 — another easy set!
✅ 130kg deadlift × 6 — pulling strong!

Now, for some perspective. When Aro first started, her best lifts were:
• Squat: 105kg
• Bench: 47.5kg
• Deadlift: 135kg

She’s now squatting her previous single for SIX reps, benching above her previous best, and building some serious momentum across all three lifts. The newbie gains are REAL, and we can’t wait to see what she keeps pulling! 🚀

Huge congratulations to Erma, Nate and Aro! We’re proud of the work you’re putting in behind the scenes, and we’re excited to see what’s next.

💪 How you train matters — but there’s more than one way to get stronger.

Free weights generally require more stabilisation, meaning your body has to coordinate and recruit more muscles to control the movement. Machines, on the other hand, provide a guided path that can allow you to focus more directly on a specific muscle group, often with less demand on those stabilising muscles.

So which one is better?

The answer depends on what you’re trying to achieve.

Free weights can help develop coordination, balance and strength across a movement, while machines can be incredibly useful for targeting specific muscles, building strength and training safely when stability or movement control is a limiting factor.

Good strength training isn’t about choosing sides. It’s about understanding the tools available to you and using them for the right purpose.

There’s a place for both. 💪

Want to learn more about how strength training can help you maintain muscle, bone health and physical capacity as you age?

Join us for Strong For Life: The Science of Ageing, where we’ll explore what happens to our bodies as we age — and what we can do to stay strong, capable and active for as long as possible.

💪 Sometimes the biggest thing holding us back from getting stronger is what we believe we can do.

Maybe you think you’re too old to lift heavy. Maybe you think strength training isn’t for you, you need to be a certain body type, or that you should stick to light exercises.

But once you start training, you may discover something very different.

You’re capable of more than you thought. You can become stronger, more capable and more confident than you ever expected.

The biggest barrier isn’t always your body, sometimes it’s the belief that you can’t.

Challenge the belief. Discover what you’re capable of. 💪
