This 1 minute reel is actually a 70 minute yoga practice.
It shows the Vinyasa Krama - or intelligent sequencing - of reaching Camel Pose. 🐪

This way of practising is often missing in modern yoga where the amount of postures in a practice is seen as more important than good preparation towards a particular goal posture.

Vinyasa Krama is intrinsic to the Krishnamacharya tradition and way of teaching. It makes every practice unique.

Body supported continuously along the way with preparation, counter posture and then brought back to its natural alignment at the end. Why rush the journey? 🙂

No forcing, no binding…and conscious breath leading the ability of the body to form shapes. Harmony in practice. 🌸🧘✅

Samtosa (contentment) takes us into practice this week - asking us to acknowledge what is inside and not be drawn out by what we think brings happiness around us. Success, objects, experiences are all transitory and sometimes a turning away from finding contentment within. Distraction.

The practice brings us back to sattva - the guna of clarity and lightness where we can access Samtosa as a natural state arising as an internal anchor and a meeting point between who we really are and who we think we should be.
It all comes back to the practice. 💫

‘When the mind no longer worries about acquiring and keeping goods, we understand where we come from, where we are and where we are going.’

Presenting the Yamas (social disciplines) in class these past few weeks has prompted much discussion. The fifth and final Yama – aparigraha (non-grasping) has really landed for many.

The Yamas are not just social disciplines that we apply in relationship with others. We need to embody them first in our self. And Yoga assists this because we are making an intimate inner connection each time we step into practice.

It may be easy enough to imagine what ‘non-grasping’ might look like in a pragmatic way. Do we tend to accumulate material goods or even knowledge or experiences? Can we be present in ourself without relying on ‘the stuff’ to keep us feeling worthwhile?
But aparigraha presents in relationship in ways that are often hidden. We all know the word ‘baggage’ and many relationships accumulate this over time. This can limit our vitality and that of the relationship. Communication suffers and we recoil into a type of ‘programming’ that seems set.

What would it feel like to be in relationship without expectation and comparison? To not anticipate or expect?
Aparigraha is asking us to be aware – to keep things fresh and meet the other as though we are seeing them for the first time. This means letting go of patterns in the mind, body and speech. Every moment is a new one. It asks us to check ourselves before we load the ‘baggage’ onto the other. Self awareness.

If we can engage aparigraha it becomes a boost for our prana (life force energy). Rather than being dragged down in past expectations, clinging to actions that have gone before – we can instead take a fresh perspective and be open to the offering of ‘now-ness’. Aparigraha is the key that can unlock the experience of life for us.

Excited to be presenting at this wonderful weekend of Yoga and all it encompasses at in Middle Park this weekend.

I stepped into this studio as a novice yogi 24 years ago and it has remained one of the original yoga schools in Melbourne and somewhere my heart always returns to. 💗

This says so much about the tradition, the teachings and most of all Barbara who has been the leader of this space all that time.

All welcome - students, teachers and community. Choose the topic that appeals or stay for the whole day! 🧘

While AI is already profoundly changing our realities, can it really help us with the shift in consciousness we urgently need to restore our relationship with the living world, asks author and Sufi teacher Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.
