Here I am going through some technique work with a client. Improving the position of the humerus bone, increasing his awareness of where it is where it goes under load as form starts to break down and where it should be in an ideal situation.

We don't want to emulate a muscle up when performing a light pull down. We want to do a lat pull down and keeping the humerus in the correct position is going to better Target the latissimus Dorsi muscle in which we are trying to train.

If you're ready to take your training to the next level with a highly experienced coach, then get in touch.

Full walkthrough on the Hammer Strength pec fly.
Set the seat so the handles sit around chest height when you're gripped up. Too high and it turns into a shoulder movement, too low and you lose the line into the chest. Back flat against the pad, feet planted.
Keep a soft bend in your elbows and hold that angle the whole way. Drive the handles together out in front of your chest, think about squeezing the pecs rather than pushing with your hands, and hold for a beat when they meet.
Let them come back under control. Stop when you feel a stretch across the chest, not when the shoulders roll forward and take over. That's where people give the tension away.
Coaching in person Mondays and Saturdays at Club Lime South Yarra, and face to face PT at rep66.com.au.

Full walkthrough on the Hammer Strength leg extension.
Set the seat so the machine's pivot lines up with the side of your knee. That keeps the resistance tracking through the joint the way it should. Then drop the ankle pad low on your shin, just above the foot, so you're loading the leg and not pulling through your ankle.
Back flat against the pad, hold the handles, and keep your hips down through the whole set. Straighten the legs under control, pause at the top for a second, then lower slowly rather than letting the weight drop.
It's all quads from there. Use the full range you've got and build the weight once the technique holds.

Here's how I coach. If you want to lose weight, we build strength. If you want to build muscle, we build strength. If you want to move better through daily life, we train strength. Strength underpins every goal inside the four walls of a gym, so that's where I put your effort. And technical mastery is what lets you keep doing it for years, with less risk when life throws a knock your way.
Beginner or advanced, wherever you're starting from is a normal place to start. I've built people up from their first session and helped experienced lifters optimise.
I coach at Club Lime in South Yarra (670 Chapel) and at my private studio in Pakenham, plus online if you can't get in. Same coaching either way, whichever suits your week.
Picture the next six months. One version where nothing changes, one where you started this week. Same six months. The difference is whether you begin. If you're ready to put yourself first, even for one hour a week, reach out.
Two ways to start. Book a free chat with me for in-person or online PT, or grab the free REP66 app to sharpen your gym tracking, still early and getting better every week. Do one, do both.
Master the foundations with me and sharpen your skills for life. rep66.com.au

Whose perfect form is it?
There is a lot of dogma about the one correct way to lift, and it misses something. A rep is really a delivery system. It exists to put intentional tension on the muscle or quality you are chasing, and your body adapts to the demand you give it. Coaches call that the SAID principle.
How you deliver that tension is personal. Your proportions change what good looks like. Long femurs change how far you lean and how wide you stand in a squat, broad shoulders change your bench grip and bar path. Copying another lifter's shape can be wrong for your skeleton. That is anthropometry.
Range of motion is part of it too. Full range is the smart default for most people, but it is a variable you can set around rehab, injury, sport, or to load a chosen part of the strength curve. With training age or a genuine reason, shortened range and isometrics earn their place. Isometrics load the muscle without movement, which is kind on cranky joints and tendons.
Case in point: a shoulder injury took the overhead press off the table for me, so I have trained it as an isometric hold for over two years. Same pattern and intent, without the painful range. That is my path though, and anything injury specific belongs with your physio.
The point is that good technique has a range. The right version is the one that loads the target and respects the body you have got.

I've known of low sugar jelly for years as a volume hack for a sweet craving, but only tried it properly the other day. Funnily enough I'm mid bulk, and it sparked a take I haven't seen much in the fitness world.
We use diet food back to front. On a cut we grab low calorie versions to hold a deficit. On a bulk we hand ourselves a free pass to eat anything. I want to challenge that second part.
The maths: a regular Coke is around 140 cal and nearly 40g of sugar, sugar free is near zero. Jelly is the same story, my diet bowl is about 6 cal per 500ml while the regular climbs into the hundreds. That freed budget buys carbs that actually nourish you.
And no, sweet does not mean chaos. The scary insulin headlines mostly trace back to mice and test tubes. FSANZ approves these sweeteners as safe within daily limits. Sugar is the one that reliably spikes blood glucose.
It comes down to energy. Weight runs on energy in versus energy out, so a near zero swap subtly lowers intake, and stagnation is usually adherence or accuracy related. Admittedly, sweeteners may keep your palate leaning sweet, so explore whether that supports or hurts your consistency.
So protect your nutrient budget. Even on a bulk, choose the diet version and spend the calories on nutrient dense whole food. Regular jelly still has a place as quick fuel around training for some.
If you have a medical reason to avoid sweeteners this isn't aimed at you, and a dietitian is your call for anything clinical. For most of us it is a simple swap that makes more of your food.

Motivation is a by-product of the work.
Most of us are taught to wait until we feel motivated. The truth is the feeling usually shows up after you start moving. So we use motivation for the one thing it's good at, getting us off the couch, then we build something that holds when it fades.
The order that works: the spark gets you to begin, habits keep you going, a supportive room makes showing up easier, and doing the work generates the very motivation you were waiting for.
There's science behind it. Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behaviour says our actions follow intention, and intention is built from three things we can shape: our attitude (seeing it's worth it), our environment (the people and norms around us), and our belief that we can (earned one rep at a time). Shape those three and you stop depending on a mood.
There are always exceptions. Some days the fire is just there. But broadly, the work comes first and the feeling follows.
If you've been waiting to feel ready, treat this as your sign to start while the spark is lit. We'll help you build the rest.
