Barrenjoey and Back Ocean Swimmers

A poem written by Micky Homes (swimmer extraordinaire - not such a good a body surfer) for our intrepid shark wrestler and pre-swim stretch trainer Margie's birthday

There is a girl for whom we all care
It’s that one with the wild, white, curly hair
The disabled spot is where she parks her car
As chronic pain is never too far
But you’d never guess that in a mile
Cos she always arrives with a smile

She will bellow “Bonjourno Marcello, Bonjourno Dee
Oh! hang on a sec, I need a pee”
Then she’ll emerge from the loo and bellow once more
“Common guys, it’s 9 o’clock, what are we waiting for!!”

Then with goggles and fins secured tight
She plunges into the ocean with all her might
She always seems incredibly keen
Cos her arms and legs move like a washing machine.

She swims out to sea, she swims to shore
Who know where she’s swimming anymore,
She wrestles sole at the bottom of the sea
And steals lobsters to cook for tea
She even posts notices on telegraph poles
When her stolen lobsters get on-stole!

She can body surf, obviously much better than me
Cos she comes back in one piece, she’ll remark with glee
Honestly, I find those remarks a bit rich,
Sometimes, she can be such a bitch!!

She is the Queen of Product for skin and hair
If you need anything she’s got it there
Lures, sinkers and fishing lures
And all manner of stinging cures.
Have you ever seen her rooting around in her bucket
If she can’t find something you can hear her exclaim “ well, f**k it!”

She has now started an exercise class
But I’m sure it’s so she can check everyone’s arse!

And, If there is anything to celebrate,
She brings sausages and eggs for the Bar-B plate,
There is really no end to her generosity,
And her endless luminosity!

When she returns from holiday, the presents come out
Nobody ever misses out!
There are T-shirts for the boys, ‘one size fits all’
And for the girls, whatever’s on special at the mall.

She brings tomatoes from her garden and other vege’s too
And also ‘Trump’ toilet paper for your loo,
There’s nothing, really, that she won’t do,
This friend of ours, ‘Miss Margie Moo’.

And now, Marcello, (I’m sorry, but your ears will be ringing)
Can you come up here and lead the singing!!!!

Dec 24th 2016 - took on our nemesis - Palm beach rock pool to Barrenjoey headland and back - 2.5 km each way. Barbie and champagne afterwards.
