Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club

Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club Gippsland Lakes is one of the most active sailing clubs in country Victoria, whereby we are operational nearly all-year round.

Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club is a fully-volunteer club located on the foreshore of McMillan Straits and Lake Victoria, Paynesville in East Gippsland. The club was founded in 1937 and has been committed to sailing for over 75 years. The facility has grown somewhat since those early days and now boasts to be one of the most successful family sailing clubs in Victoria. Our facilities include a fully-licenced bar, club rooms with lake views, launching area with ramp, crane, and mooring jetties. The Club has wet berth, hardstand and undercover boat storage.

⛵️Yachties — you have to watch the “True South“ doco on Netflix!⛵️

Comanche, Sydney to Hobart, Australian sailing…. 🙌⛵️👌

It follows Herman Winning and brothers Nathan and Peter Dean racing Andoo Comanche to Hobart, 25 years after Nathan and Peter lost their father, John Dean, in the tragic 1998 Sydney to Hobart.

It’s the history, the families, the friendships and generations of people brought together through sailing!

And ….. this is the Winning family now backing Australia’s return to the America’s Cup in 2027!

Herman Winning, who skippered Comanche to Hobart line honours, is part of the family backing Team Australia, alongside a pretty extraordinary line-up including Tom Slingsby, Glenn Ashby and Grant Simmer.

There’s a lot of Australian sailing history tied up in this story: the Sydney to Hobart and the legacy of 1998, to Comanche and now Australia having another crack at the America’s Cup…

Anyway, I’ve only just started watching it-, but I’m so excited to see sailing on Netflix and such a great story!! 😍

Our sport, our history and the people shaping where Australian sailing goes next. 🇦🇺⛵️👍

A yacht club is so much more than the boats on the water. It is the people who volunteer their time, share their knowledge, welcome new members, organise the racing, maintain the club and quietly do the many jobs that keep everything moving.

Thank you to each of you for putting your hand up to help lead GLYC through another season.

Wishing Anne and the entire committee a wonderful 2026/27 season — with plenty of good sailing, full decks, new faces and the strong sense of community that makes our club what it is.

Fair winds for the season ahead.
