Lugarno FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Forgione as the club’s Technical Director of Female Football. In this role, Steven will oversee the female component of Lugarno FC’s player development programs, Football Focus and NextGen. He will also provide technical support to the club’s advanced female teams and be available to assist with female football development across all areas of the club.
Steven brings more than 40 years of football experience as both a player and coach, with involvement spanning grassroots, association and National Premier League (NPL) football across the men’s and women’s game. He has coached players from Under 6 through to senior level and is recognised for his strong focus on player development, technical foundations and creating positive learning environments where players can thrive.
A holder of an FFA/Australia Football C Licence, Steven’s recent coaching experience includes leading the Under 16 Girls team at Bankstown City Lions FC in the NPL competition during 2025 and the Under 14 Girls team at University of NSW FC in 2023. He has also previously coached Lugarno FC’s Premier League Men’s First Grade and Reserve Grade teams and served as the club’s Senior Club Coaching Director.
Steven’s connection with female football is both professional and personal. As the father of three daughters, all of whom began their football journey at Lugarno FC, he has witnessed first-hand the rapid growth and development of the women’s game in Australia.
Having spent more than a decade involved with Lugarno FC as a coach, player, parent and committee member, Steven has developed a deep understanding of the club’s culture and values. He is passionate about helping players build strong technical foundations, develop confidence and enjoy their football, while equipping them with the skills needed to succeed at higher levels of the game.
Steven’s coaching philosophy is centred on getting the fundamentals right, developing core skills, encouraging intelligent possession-based football and inspiring players to become the best version of themselves both on and off the field. His extensive football background, combined with his experience as a teacher and mentor, makes him an outstanding addition to Lugarno FC’s female football program.
The club welcomes Steven to the role and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on the continued growth and success of female football at Lugarno FC.
