KEEP WHAT AGE TRIES TO TAKE.
Age changes the body... But how much capability we surrender — and how quickly — isn't entirely predetermined.
✅Balance can be trained.
✅Mobility can be maintained.
✅Coordination can be challenged.
✅Strength and control can continue to develop.
Tai Chi isn't about pretending we don't age.
It's about continuing to work with the body we have and preserving our ability to move through life with confidence and control.
There are endless ways to keep a young child occupied.
But being busy isn't the same as developing.
Little Dragons gives children aged 4–6 a place to practice something increasingly valuable:
✅Listening
✅Focusing.
✅Following instructions.
✅Trying when something feels difficult.
✅And experiencing the satisfaction of getting better.
They're learning martial arts — but they're also building habits that reach far beyond the training floor.
We often say children need to concentrate more.
But concentration is a skill. And skills require practice. Remember the sequence.
Watch the instructor ➡ Control the movement ➡ Correct the detail ➡ Repeat.
Kung Fu gives children repeated opportunities to practice directing their attention.
Focus isn't found. It's trained.

Encouragement matters.
But there's a difference between being told you're strong and knowing you're strong because you've tested yourself.
Learn a skill ➡ Struggle with it ➡ Practise it ➡ Use it under pressure ➡ Improve.
That's how genuine confidence develops. Not confidence from words. Confidence from capability.

We can tell children they're capable.
But the most powerful confidence comes when they discover it for themselves.
When something is difficult and they keep trying.
When “I can't do it” becomes “I did it!”
Tiny Tigers creates those little victories every class.
Confidence built on capability.

Practising Shaolin Qigong in Songshan, China.
Wind Moves the Willows, filmed in the spiritual grounds of Zhongyue Temple during my recent return to Dengfeng.
There is something special about practising among the mountains, temples and traditions of Songshan.

Adult Kung Fu training is broader than learning isolated techniques. This week's planned classes combine forms, partner arm-conditioning, supervised self-defence practice and a short Qigong finish. Each element develops a different part of training: movement quality, body awareness, controlled partner work and calm attention. Adults in Penrith can begin with clear guidance and build these skills progressively rather than being expected to know them from day one.

Taiji following the sound of the Xiao 箫.
I recorded this quiet moment at Zhongyue Temple in the Song Mountain region of China, practising while my Kung Fu brother played the traditional Chinese flute.
There was no need to force the rhythm. The movement simply followed the breath, the music and the surroundings.
These experiences continue to inform the Tai Chi we share with our students at Emerald Dragon Martial Arts in Penrith.
