We are interested in developing facilities across MTB, CX, Road and BMX.

Cambridge Cycling Club is about engaging local and state government, as well as the community on the development of cycling facilities in Perth's inner suburbs.

Things have been happening (part 2)...and this is my letter to the Editor.

My letter asks local government to focus on providing sites rather than demonising kids for an activity (riding bikes) that is so good on so many levels. A group is being formed to follow the 8 Stages of Trail Development published by DBCA and DLGSC with respect to land we have identified in the Western Suburbs suitable for MTB trails. We are looking for others to be involved. Please reach out if you are interested. This is about getting safe, accessable and fun facilities for kids. Something every local government should be providing.

What a great investment!! Huge kudos to Tracey Roberts - WA Labor for Pearce and Patrick Gorman MP for dropping by the Wanneroo BMX and pledging $1m for a much needed new track. Wanneroo BMX Club holds coaching/gate nights 4 times a week and up to 100 kids race Friday night’s – playing their sport in a safe and accessible space – who will hopefully grow up riding bikes and being better road users for life (with perhaps the odd national champ or Olympian).

Despite its popularity, there are only a handful of dedicated facilities in the metro area to play the sport of cycling. The more people play the sport – and in particular kids – the more likely people are to use cycling as a mode of transport; something that has so many benefits for our communities. But we need safe accessible sporting facilities. Yes, its hard to build them (cost, NIMBY blah blah), but cycling gives you 2 bangs for your buck – physical activity/recreation and transport. Bingo.

Both major political parties are now supporting a new track at Wanneroo. Thank you for their vision and well done Wanneroo BMX. Next step - get local schools to incorporate the track into their school sport curriculum. Wouldn't that be huge!!

Chris Tallentire MLA Northern Beaches Cycling Club

The Wanneroo BMX is a vibrant community club that brings together more than 100 families per week. They provide a space for children of all ages to enjoy their favourite sport whilst keeping fit and staying social. I have been a strong advocate for this amazing club over the years and understand the need for operational facilities, adequate lighting, and a space to hold not only our local competitions, but state series and national competitions. I would like to thank President John Bennett and his amazing Committee for their commitment and dedication to ensure the continued success of the Club

It’s my pleasure to announce that an Albanese Labor Government will commit $1 million for much needed upgrades at the track! Thank you to Patrick Gorman MP for joining me.

Some years ago City of Cockburn published a detail plan for MTB trails at Manning Park. This flowed from the Perth and Peel Mountain Bike Master Plan, which identified Manning Park as suitable for MTB. The plan was launched by the then Environment Minister, Stephen Dawson, and Sport and Recreation Minister, Mick Murray at Manning Park. The sites identified were old quarries which are now unsanctioned tips. Fast forward to today and the Council is proposing to (a) exclude mountain bikes from Manning Park with the exception of designated cycle paths, effective from 1 March 2023; and (b) authorise the City to close and remove all unauthorised bike trails from Manning Park.

Yes, recreational cycling facilities in urban areas is hard. But you cannot just ban a sport (unless you are going to buy-back everybody's MTBs ala the 1996 gun buy back program). And no, jumping in a car for 2-3 hours of driving for the nearest legal trails is not an option. And no a PSP to Muchea does not get kids wanting to ride bikes. If kids cannot ride local they just sit on their ipads and get driven to school.

Please sign the petition and share far and wide. Otherwise, get building those unsanctioned trails. Its only a $80 fine in Cockburn. Cheap as chips compared to $5k in Cambridge.

You need to think outside the box to create cycling facilities in urban areas. Space is at a premium, and a multitude of stakeholders need to be accommodated. But the results are worth it - just check out saddle side on this ride....

There has not been much publicity about this in WA - neither WestCycle or AusCycling - WA Clubs and Community seem to be supporting it - but its on. I know CCGS have been doing things all week. Nothing at MLC. That is a sleeping project!

✨National Ride2School Day 2022 is tomorrow!✨

It's the perfect opportunity to kick-start new healthy habits and promote the many benefits of active travel. 😀

City of Melville councilors have unanimously supported Dyoondalup Point Walter Reserve as the preferred location for the establishment of a mountain bike facility and supported the associated concept plan. This is a great step forward for inner city cycling facilities that are urgently needed.

Hopefully councilors in the Western Suburbs could learn a thing or two from this about community engagement, rather than treating cycling as taboo subject that cops a $5k fine. Providing fun and safe places for kids to ride, and creating local community riding groups/clubs is a big step to getting them to actively travel to school. This will reduce congestion in the Western Suburbs.

🐶 Voted to not proceed with the establishment of a dog swimming area along
