The green shirt program is designed to raise awareness about the experience level and development journey of new Match Officials. By visibly identifying inexperienced referees, the program fosters greater understanding, empathy and respect from players, coaches, and spectators - ultimately aiming to significantly reduce risk of abuse and unnecessary pressure on new referees.

We’re running the Level Two Match Official Developer Course, focused on building more mentors within our referee community.

With more referees especially juniors joining the Association, we need people willing to support, guide and share their experience with others in the game.

Saturday 18 April 2026 – Coach the Coach Session – West Scarborough

Great officials develop through great feedback.

We’re running a “Coach the Coach” Match Official Developer session, where participants will attend a community rugby round to observe referees and, more importantly, listen to a developer deliver feedback after the game.

The learning then continues as participants reflect on how that feedback was delivered and discuss ways to make it even more effective.
It’s a practical, hands-on day focused on building the skills needed to mentor and support referees as they develop in the game.

Good luck to Morghan and Malcolm as they head north to Referee at the Hottest 7s tournament in Darwin. This has become an annual fixture for a select number of emerging WA referees over the years and we wish them well!

The seminar will cover important content for the season ahead, including GMGs, Integrity, and Rugby Xplorer and a chance to catch up and socialise with your fellow Match Officials and Developers before the season kicks off!

All Match Officials and Developers must register for the event via the Learning Centre to ensure you receive your Season Ready 2026 accreditation (mandatory annual accreditation).
